Cycling to Kalaru Holiday Park

Cycling to Kalaru Holiday Park.jpg

Phew... it has been quite a while since I did any bike riding. In the Netherlands, it was really almost all the time and it was our primary form of transport. And when we got the e-bike, that really extended the range and types of weather in which we could cycle around in!

I've gotten quite lazy with it in Australia... but this year, both my wife and I are really planning to do more cycling. Time to revive the e-fiets and see how the battery was holding up after so little use in the past couple of years.

Anyway, my wife thought that it would be a good idea on our holiday recently to cycle from Tathra to Kalaru. It isn't really that far... but keep in mind that I'm completely out of shape... and these were regular bikes... and they weren't even in great condition either. It is about 20 minutes by bike... but it is an uneven trip... mostly downhill on the way from Tathra to Kalaru, and then pretty much uphill all the way back!

So, needless to say... the downhill is quite fun. The exhilaration of the wind in our faces... it was such a nice reminder of our time in Netherlands. And my wife had said that the treat at the other end would be a nice coffee and a cake at the Kalaru Holiday Park... which is where we normally get our fish and chips when we are holidaying in the area. Otherwise, there isn't really anything else here... a small servo and cafe (not as good as this one...).

So, this is a really nice place to just sit down and eat... to rest my weary legs, and to steel ourselves for the uphill climb back to Tathra! And for that you need energy!!!!!

... a nice sweet Pecan slice was just the thing! Plus a smoothie and a coffee... perhaps too much extra weight to take back with me on the uphill ride, but in the end it was worth it... I really needed that burst of sugary energy!

So, I think that this is going to be a thing on our future visits to Tathra... a trip down to the Kalaru Holiday Park... we just need to entice and convince the kids that this would be a great idea!

Cycling with loved ones and having a good treat at the Cafe at the end is a good bonding and a very enjoyable thing to do. Though cycling going up is (hehe) a little tiring and maybe enough to burn the food that you just ate. But it is the moment and the happy experience.😍

It is really quite nice to ride together... but my wife is much more fit than I am!

I see that it can be difficult to go cycling in other countries when you are used to the Dutch cycling culture.
But good that you're picking it up again!

Thanks for the support! Yes, it is quite different to have much less infrastructure... and hills.

I think the last time I rode a bike was about 10 years ago well may be a bit less but was some time ago, they say you never forget how to, better be true 😅, staying active is always a great plan, doing it constantly will gradually gets anyone into great shape 💪, plus having a coffee and a bite of cake is a nice reward for those days on the bike just not too much sugar to keep things under control ✌️

It is true, you never really forget how to do it! I really should do it more often... I don't like exercising, and so riding places to get to where I want to go is better than trying to find time to do a gym or something.

What's in that energy bar? It looks just like my turbo power rice bar! Perfect for long bicycle rides

Pecan nuts, other nuts, and a lot of sugar and butter! It was super tasty,, and jam packed with enough energy to get me back uphill!
