Happy Father's Day (or solstice... or International Yoga day...)!

Every year, Father's Day catches me completely by surprise... it isn't something that we place that much importance in, but still it is nice to have some little gifts and have your kids wake you up by jumping on you in the morning! Oddly enough, I rarely forget Mother's Day (even though my wife also doesn't place huge importance in it) as I try have the kids do something for their mother in the weeks leading up to the day... it's hard to get them to stick to any deadline, and so I always figure the earlier we start... the less stressful it will be for later!

Anyway, like most Father's Days... I start the day being woken up pretty early, as the kids are super excited to let me know that it is a special day by piling on top of my face... followed by an exile out of the house to pick up some croissants for breakfast. My wife tends to have a different approach to preparing the presents.

My oldest girl made me this really cool corner bookmark (or comic-mark, apparently it is also good to use on comics...) in the form of Darth Vader! She knows that I love Star Wars (well, the pre-Disney Star Wars... but I do love space and sci-fi stuff! Oddly enough, she made the "painted" bits in nail polish... I guess it will be quite a fair bit more durable then... as long as I don't drop it in acetone!

Another year, another photo added to my photo frame of me and my girls... sorry, this one I'm keeping to myself! After all, they are only special moments for me... and they wouldn't really hold much significance for anyone else!

Missing is my youngest daughter's contribution... she had done a drawing of me, and then decided to cut it all up! She is in the phase of cutting everything that she can get her hands on...

So, this year... there were the flowers from the garden which were really nice! No paper neckties to wear for the whole day!

...plus, there were three beers as well! I do wonder how they managed to smuggle them out of the bottle shop during the coronavirus restrictions. I guess that their mother had something to do with this part!

IMG_20200621_101845.jpg

... this little bit at the end is just something that amused me... the fact that the beer from the Anglo-sphere country requires the labeling to "use opener" on the lid whilst the European version of the beer assumes that you aren't an idiot. It is something that I've noticed a bit when travelling between Anglo countries and European countries... there has been a definite movement in the English speaking parts of the world to explicitly spell out things that are bloody obvious... perhaps it has to do with the litigation culture that exists in certain parts of the Anglo-sphere and the habit of stating the bloody obvious has been exported to other English speaking parts of the world...

Happy Father's day @bengy, nice that your family does stuff like this for you.
I completely agree about the labeling thing. In our country, lawsuits are rampant, so that you have to have a warning to not spill the hot coffee on yourself.
The 'dumbing down' of things just makes us dumber, and contaminates the gene pool.
In my opinion anyway.

Ha... yes, although we have probably gone past the point of survival of the fittest, however, it you would think that there would be a case to dismiss frivolous cases. At least in the countries that I have lived in, there are many cases that would just get bounced out at pre-trial.

Happy Father’s Day man.

The reason it is so easy to please us today is because we are not fathers but dads as well. Taking a moment to peek in on my sleeping in little ones and reflecting how nice it really is having them safe and with me and snoozing peacefully sets the day up so nicely anything else is a bonus.

Funny thing is the girl guides celebrated the summer solstice last night and my wife is out at yoga right now so it is all happening.

Hopefully you have that beer ready to chase down the coffee today. You deserve it.

Yes, it is quite amazing how the kids have grown up... I remember the feeling of when they were much more helpless... and the pride that you have whenever you look at them. I would sometimes catch my father watching me, not saying anything.. and now I know why!

So glad to read this!

She is in the phase of cutting everything that she can get her hands on...

That's very cute. How old is she?

She is just short of 4... so, a slightly rebellious age of transition!
