That is right... always packing spares, and especially with gut strings, they can degrade quite quickly given the right climate conditions.
... and the gut strings tend to quite false and unresponsive a lot quicker than metal strings which tend to have much more "shine" to lose!

I tend to use coated guitar strings that last longer as I don't want to be changing them too often.
