Spitfires... Gloves off!!!

Sigh... I guess it was a matter of time, but I finally gave in to the losing battle that I was having with the spitfires and decided to go a touch nuclear on them. I had tried just physical squashing, pruning infected branches, and white oil... but in the end, the bushes were getting stripped again, and so reluctantly, I have gotten a spray to kill the spitfires in order to get a bit of an upper hand again. After a couple initial days of targeted culling, I think I can stop again... there is decidedly less spitfires and the bushes have a chance to regrow.

... and that means I now have time to get moving on the large project in the backyard. The retaining wall... the bricks are sitting there ready to go, and I just need to get some agpipes, gravel, and a bit of cement... but before anything gets built or laid down, the rocks need to be moved.... again. These were the temporary retaining walls a year ago, but now they will make way for something a bit more permanent... sadly, they still weigh a good deal.

The levelled area will also need to moved back a bit, so that the path is a touch wider.. eventually, we do want to add a water tank here, and if the path area isn't wider, then it will end up being a tight squeeze, even with the slimline tanks!

... one done, about 50-100 more to go.

So, this is the area that will need to be widened out a bit... doesn't look too difficult, it isn't that much further back, and the slope already takes care of most of it!

After a few (lots...) more rocks, I was pretty tired, so I got back to sorting out the rest of the little chores that needed to be fixed. The eternal gutter cleaning... thanks to all the trees that surround our house! Great for shade and all of that, but a pain in the arse for the leaves!

... I did the neighbours garage while I was at it... but this gutter has really had it... I will need to chat with them about fixing it. The brackets are broken or completely bent...

... and there was so much debris that needed to be raked off the actual tin roof!

... and on the other neighbour's garage, a similar story... but at least their gutter is working!

Nice of you to help the neighbours out while you were up there 😄 we need to get new gutters too 😵 and it’s an endless argument as J doesn’t want to get new ones because of our shade tree (same deal, amazing for shade and it’s the sole reason we don’t just die in summer but so much crap buildup) 😑

I feel terrible that our trees are dropping so much crap on their garages... and those gutters are easier to get at from our side of the fence anyway... plus, they help us out with various things anyway!
