Employees don't have KPIs

For the company to grow and develop, you must understand how well your employees are doing. To understand this, you need to compare with something - to assign, or at least to understand for yourself, where the lower and upper boundaries of the result you are expecting are.

What to do.
Subordinates should have clear KPIs or at least general assessment methods. They should be understandable not only to you but also to your employees so that they know-how and for what they are encouraged or punished.

A lot of negativity in response

When it comes to commenting, there is negative side in every business, but when its ratio to positive comments increases, you need to take this into account.

What to do.
Tracking negative - manually or using special services. Do not leave the negative unanswered; try to close any claim. At the same time, to distinguish real negative from trolling or ordering - when comments or reviews are written for the sake of a hype or to order to tarnish you. You may not respond to obvious trolling, but you can investigate a large number of customized reviews, and, most likely, you will have to hire a company to improve your reputation.

Employees call customers idiots.

The situation - in the smoking room, people are discussing what a bastard is a new client: they do not understand the elementary, asks stupid questions, and, in general, some collective farmer is stupid. What do you think - will they help such a client, try to better solve his problem, and generally help to figure it out? Of course not, and this has a detrimental effect on the quality of your services. Then it becomes a habit, the overall quality drops, the revenue tends to zero.

What to do.
Lead by example with your behavior. If you also come to the office and hide your partners and clients for what it is, it is foolish to demand this from your subordinates. Do not allow disrespectful remarks to the client in communication, even if he got it. If someone continues to grumble, explain in a personal conversation that you should not spread negativity in the team.

Stiffness, no flexibility

There are few niches in the market that are permanently static. Everything is changing - the composition of products, services, methods of providing them, methods of advertising, and distribution of content to the user. All this must be constantly studied and kept in mind. There are two main reasons:
You can lag behind more advanced competitors who will find and take away a new audience.
If you constantly work in the same way, for example, use only targeting for advertising, the audience loses interest, and the effectiveness of communication decreases - accordingly, the cost per lead grows.

What to do.
Keep track of competitors, but it is better to be one step ahead . If you don't have the strength or skills, hire a good manager or a competent marketer. That being said, don't hire cheap people. A 50k pay difference can give you an advantage of millions.

The possibilities of detecting certain details that make a company not go well, is usually a great tool to improve from there. Only in this way, knowing these details, it is possible to correct them as soon as possible.

In several big companies I have worked there were two common problems:

  • the yearly performance evaluation process is one-way, manager to subordinate, and no provision is made for employees to comment on their managers
  • there is no appeal process against performance reviews: a manager's decision is considered final by design.

Because of this approach, in presence of bad managers a lot of employees end up being demotivated and feeling disgruntled because there is nothing they can do to improve their situation. Nobody said working environment must be democratic, but if there is a genuine intention to evaluate, then the employees' opinion should also be taken into account.
