Anniversary Equals Dessert!

Hello there, full-time weekenders!

Without a doubt there are initiatives in Hive that have been staples since their conception. Take for example the Hive Open Mic, that's already on its week 164. Today, we celebrate how the #weekend-engagement initiative has reached 3 years of topics that give us something to think about, ponder about our concepts and even laugh from time to time. I know the G-dog doesn't like these introductions but I thought it was important to mention that this is quite an achievement.

For today's topic, I wanted to buy little token of appreciation for our host in the community. Since we are celebrating an anniversary, it's a custom at home to eat something sweet. Having a budget of 3 US dollars, and after some considerations, I decided I'd buy @galenkp a portion of Tres Leches Cake.

I'm taking a huge risk. I don't know whether his lactose intolerant or gluten intolerant. But I have never seen someone be stopped by that to eat something they shouldn't. These aren't deadly conditions like allergies to peanuts and sea food.

Anyways, I got this portion from the new place in the city. It has a decent bakery and the highlight of this cake is its moisture. Yes, for those who do not know Tres Leches Cake, it starts as a starts as a regular cake mix that's baked. It tends to be on fluffy side. You poke wholes on it after it cools down. Then you pour a mix of whole milk, condensed milk and evaporated milk. Afterwards you dress it with a white merengue and sprinkle some cinnamon on top. It goes to the fridge while you wait for the cake to suck up all that milk (no innuendos intended), and its ready to served.

It's been a long time since I had seen a cake that had all this liquid being sold anywhere. Lots of Tres Leches cake in bakeries are kind of dry and that takes away a lot from the experience of eating such a dessert.

You must be wondering if I know the cake is good. And the answer is a resounding, YES! I had some of it after lunch since it was my dad's birthday. And it was really good! It has the right amount of sweetness to it and the cinnamon touch cuts right through it. It is a cake that you can enjoy without feeling disgusted by it being too sweet.

I know food is something that doesn't last, but sharing food is an experience that brings people closer. I already know a bit about the G-dog and consider him a friend in the distance. Of course, the photo of the cake is like a coupon for a portion of cake if we ever meet in person. I just hope that if that happens our budget will be higher than 3 US dollars, so we can have coffee as well.

There might be better ways to celebrate a 3-year anniversary, but sharing some dessert with people you like is hard to beat. Besides the portion was only 2.50$, so you could have cake and change!

And that's even a better deal... I think!
