Dear and respected readers of this community. In Venezuela there has been an important boom in the street mural movement in recent years, not only in the Capital, but throughout the country. Today I ask you to accompany me to see a mural erected by a Venezuelan artist, Oscar Olivares, a 25-year-old young man. native of the State of Táchira, who has contributed with a mural in La Grita, his native land, and this last one, for now, built in the city of Guatire, Municipio Zamora, in the Miranda State.

The mural has been built on a wall made available to the painter and the organizers, among which is the Mayor's Office of the city, with an extension of more than 300 meters. More than 300,000 plastic caps of various sizes were used for its construction and it was completed in a period of 33 days, with the collaboration of some 1,000 volunteers, who did their bit to complete this mural. This mural is thought to be the largest ever built from plastic caps, and it is trying to look to be confirmed as a Guinness World Record.

The finished work allows us to deduce the iconic elements that the artist had in mind, namely, elements of the popular culture of Guatire (the parrandas of San Pedro and San Juan), "la cruz de mayo", the well-known and colorful macaws and other birds, (Turpial, official bird of Venezuela), as well as a splendid world map that speaks of the universal character of the work of art.

The ecological character of the work is clearly noted in what was stated, at the beginning of its construction, by its artist to the local press: "We are going to manage to recycle 360,000 bottle caps, which is equivalent to almost a ton of plastic that is not going to go to the ocean. It is important to note that this was not thanks only to an artist but to the entire community of Guatire and even from other parts of Venezuela who dedicated themselves to recycling their tapas”, see: https://laverdaddemonagas.com/2022/09/30 /olive groves-mural-guatire/

For the installation of the pieces of the mural it was necessary to make a special mixture to paste the covers, in addition to a strategy so that the volunteers who arrived daily could participate, which consisted of giving them a sector previously filled with cement-paste plus a sketch or drawing that allowed the proper gluing of the covers.

The owners of the wall, where the mural was built, realizing the beauty of the work, ended up painting there houses on the outside to further highlight what was being done on the exterior wall.

On October 29, the mural wanted to be inaugurated with the participation of its author, representatives of the Mayor's Office of Zamora and many of the volunteers. Oliveros posted on his twitter account (Oscar Olivares (@Olivarescfc, September 28, 2022) that he will soon travel to Paris to participate, from November 21 to 23, in the Louvre Carousel Art Fair.

In front of the mural, across the street, there is a piece of land that had already been conditioned for the enjoyment of the inhabitants and visitors of the place, where you can taste good local food, a small playground and use an area to walk and exercise. All photos were taken by me (BESAMU), with the exception of where I appear.
