Let's give the benefit of the doubt [ESP-ENG]

Muchas veces hemos escuchado de hecho pronunciado esta expresión “Dale el beneficio a la duda” ¿Realmente sabemos su significado? El beneficio a la duda es cuando absorbemos o dejamos sin efecto la culpabilidad de una persona por falta de plena pruebas.

Tanto en nuestra vida cotidiana como en el área jurídica hay beneficios que extraemos si lo ponemos en práctica. Diariamente nos enfrentamos a situaciones, vivencias, se presentan circunstancias en nuestras vidas, entre otras cosas, donde podemos sentirnos como la víctima, bien sea de un acto, de palabras que provienen de otras personas, familiares, vecinos amigos compañeros de trabajos que pueden hacernos sentir ofendidos😟

Many times we have actually heard this expression "Give the benefit of the doubt", do we really know what it means? The benefit of the doubt is when we absorb or leave without effect the guilt of a person for lack of full evidence.

In our daily life as well as in the legal area there are benefits that we extract if we put it into practice. Every day we face situations, experiences, circumstances arise in our lives, among other things, where we can feel like the victim, either of an act, of words that come from other people, family members, neighbors, friends, co-workers that can make us feel offended.😟

En estos momentos pudiera ser muy provechoso optar por el beneficio a la duda, ya que en la mayoría de los casos no tenemos suficiente prueba de que lo que se dijo o se hizo fue con mala intención. Esta provisión del beneficio de la duda nos ayuda a no sentirnos ofendidos con facilidad y a pasar por alto errores e imprudencias de otros. Aparte de eso podemos proyectar una imagen estable de nuestra personalidad, creando espacios en nuestra mente para idear soluciones efectivas, para los problemas o dificultades de mayor envergadura que realmente requieren atención.🙂

El que demos beneficio a la duda, no quiere decir que el ofensor quede totalmente absuelto o libre de la imprudencia o la falta cometida. Cuando damos beneficio a la duda no necesariamente significa que no nos moleste o incomode la falta, sino que antes de que permanezca la molestia, anteponemos la razón; y la razón nos dicta de que si no hay plena prueba de una mala intención detrás de un acto o un dicho que nos incomode no deberíamos juzgar al individuo.

Porque, aunque no nos demos cuenta en el momento, lo que realmente nos molesta es la intención o el motivo que uno cree que mueve a la persona de hacer o decir algo que nos incomode. Para tomar como ejemplo, podemos mencionar un niño que dice o hace algo que suena ofensivo, quizás no nos ofenda porque entendemos que lo que dice es producto de su ignorancia y no está acompañado de una mala intención. Por el contrario, si lo hiciera un adulto las posibilidades de sonar ofensivos son muy altas, ya que se supone que es un adulto y debería medir lo que dice o hace,lamentablemente no todos los adultos han desarrollado la capacidad de medir sus acciones, este ejemplo nos muestra que lo que realmente nos molesta o nos incómoda son las intenciones o los motivos por lo cual una persona dice o hace algo, por más pequeño que pueda ser.

In these moments it could be very beneficial to opt for the benefit of the doubt, since in most cases we do not have full proof that what was said or done was with bad intention. This provision of the benefit of the doubt helps us not to feel offended easily and to overlook mistakes, recklessness of others. Apart from that we can project a stable image of our personality, creating spaces in our mind to devise effective solutions for the larger problems or difficulties that really require attention.🙂

The fact that we give benefit of the doubt does not mean that the offender is totally absolved or free of the imprudence or the fault committed. When we give benefit of the doubt, it does not necessarily mean that we are not bothered or uncomfortable with the offense, but rather that before the discomfort remains we put reason first, and reason dictates that if there is not full proof of a bad intention behind an act or a saying that bothers us, we should not judge the individual.

Because, although we may not realize it at the time, what really bothers us is the intention or motive that one believes moves the person to do or say something that makes us uncomfortable. To take as an example we can mention a child who says or does something that sounds offensive, perhaps it does not offend us because we understand that what he says is a product of his ignorance and is not accompanied by a bad intention. On the contrary, if an adult did it, the possibilities of sounding offensive are very high, since he is supposed to be an adult and should measure what he says or does, unfortunately not all adults have developed the ability to measure their actions, this example shows us that what really bothers us or makes us uncomfortable are the intentions or the reasons why a person says or does something, no matter how small it may be.

El hecho de que demos beneficio a la duda no significa que al beneficiado se le pueda aconsejar por exponerse a un peligro o exponer a otros. En definitiva, el beneficio a la duda es muy importante, porque a veces podemos cegarnos e imputar malos motivos, y hacernos ideas de una persona sin tener plena prueba de porque esa persona es así, o actúa o habla de esa manera.

The fact that we give benefit of the doubt does not mean that the beneficiary can be advised for exposing himself to danger or exposing others. In short, the benefit of the doubt is very important, because sometimes we can be blinded and impute bad motives, and get ideas about a person without having full proof of why that person is like that, or acts or speaks in that way.

Amigos, el beneficio de la duda nos ayuda a ver un poco más allá de lo que tenemos en frente como su crianza, sus vivencias sus dificultades, de manera que han tallado o moldeado la personalidad de esta persona, pero no necesariamente quiere decir que sea mala. Cuando reflejamos una personalidad estable, creamos oportunidad para conocer a otros y descubrir gemas valiosas y seremos más felices junto con los nuestros.❤️

Friends, the benefit of the doubt helps us to see a little beyond what we have in front of us as their upbringing, their experiences, their difficulties, so that have carved or molded the personality of this person, but does not necessarily mean that it is bad. When we reflect a stable personality we create opportunities to meet others and discover valuable gems and we will be happier together with our own.❤️
