3 Turkish TV Series I've Watched (Are they good?) ESP/ENG
For some time now, I've developed a guilty pleasure for Turkish series, and I say "guilty pleasure" because, obviously, not all of them are high quality, but they all possess a certain something that makes it impossible to look away from the screen. In this post, I want to share with you three that I've watched and I'm going to rank them (according to my criteria) from worst to best.
Desde hace un tiempo para aca he desbloqueado un gusto culposo por las series turcas, y digo "Gusto culposo" porque obviamente no todas son de buena calidad pero igualmente conservan un bendito no sé que, que hace que no puedas alejarte de la pantalla. En este post quiero compartir contigo tres de las que he visto y las voy a clasificar (según mi criterio) de la peor a la mejor.
3 Sila
This series is old; I can't pinpoint exactly when it's from, but judging by the cell phones the characters use, I'd say it's from the early 2000s. So maybe that somewhat justifies its third-place ranking on my list, considering my ranking goes from worst to best. However, it's not that I consider it a bad series; generally speaking, it's quite good overall. First of all, the acting (I think they're very demanding in Turkey when it comes to acting because I haven't seen a single bad actor so far). The locations are beautiful, but the series' biggest problem lies in its story and the way the script is written. Look, it's a story about arranged marriages and archaic, age-old traditions, but I'm not even bothered by the way they portray Turkey because the series actually emphasizes that these are sexist traditions not accepted by everyone, but only by the clans of that people, and in fact, it's made as a critique. But what bothers me is that the protagonist, although she resists at the beginning, seems to adapt conveniently quickly to her situation. I feel there was a lack of development and chemistry between the main characters. Also, the protagonist is supposedly 17 years old, but the actress who plays her looks over 25.
Esta serie es antigua, no puedo precisar exactamente de cuando data, pero dejandome guiar por los telefonos celulares que usan los personajes, yo diría que es de principios del 2000, así que tal vez eso pueda justificar de cierta manera el hecho de que esté en el tercer puesto de mi lista, tomando en cuenta que mi ranking va del peor al mejor, sin embargo no es que considere que sea una mala serie, en términos generales, viéndola como un todo está bastante buena, en primer lugar las actuaciones, (creo que en Turquia son muy exigentes con el nivel actoral porque no he visto ningún mal actor hasta ahora) las locaciones son hermosas, pero el gran problema de esta serie radica en su historia y la manera en que está escrito el guion. A ver, es una historia sobre matrimonios arreglados y tradiciones milenarias arcaícas, pero ni siquiera me molesta el hecho de que den esa imagen de Turquía porque realmente en la serie se recalca el hecho de que son tradiciones machistas que no son aceptadas por todo el mundo sino por los clanes de ese pueblo, y de hecho está hecha a modo de critica, pero lo que me molesta es que la protagonista, si bien se resste al inicio, parece adaptarse convenientemente rápido a su situación, siento que faltó desarrollo y química entre los personajes principales, además la protagonista supuestamente tiene 17 años pero la actriz que la interpreta se nota que sobrepasa los 25.
2 Hercai
This is also a story about archaic traditions and revenge, somewhat in the style of Romeo and Juliet, where two families clash in a deadly struggle. It starts off quite good; in fact, its pacing is very lively, the characters are well-written, and the plot unfolds quite well, which makes it deserving of this second place in my ranking. However, the problem arises later, when the plot seems to get a little out of control, when characters appear to have been randomly introduced who contributed little or nothing to the story and who, in fact, simply disappeared as quickly as they appeared. At other times, the pace felt so hectic that there was no room for the protagonists to breathe or rest, and therefore, not for the audience either.
Esta también es una historia sobre tradiciones arcaícas y venganza, más o menos al estilo de Romeo y Julietta donde dos familias se enfrentan a muerte. Al inicio es bastante buena, de hecho su ritmo es muy animado, los personajes están muy bien escritos y la trama se desarrolla bastante bien, loque la hace merecedora de este segundo puesto en mi ranking, sin embargo el problema viene después, cuando la trama parece salirse un poco de control, cuando parecen haber metido personajes al azar que aportaron muy poco o nada a la trama y que de hecho desaparecieron así sin más, de la misma manera en que aparecieron, en otras ocasiones sentías que el ritmo era tan agitado que no había espacio de respiro o descanso para los protagonistas y por ende tampoco para la audiencia.
1 What is Fatmagul's fault?
What is Fatmagul's Fault? It deserves to be at the top of this list for several reasons: not only does it have a good pace and memorable performances, but it never lost its way, it didn't introduce unnecessary characters, it handled the character development excellently, and it was a powerful story—in fact, it caused a stir in Turkey and helped to formulate and reformulate some laws, since the plot revolves around a young peasant woman who was raped by three wealthy young men who initially suffer no consequences, and in fact try to "fix" the situation with money and an arranged marriage with one of the young men who, although he didn't participate in the cowardly act, was present. It's a story of struggle and resilience, of justice and overcoming adversity, so I highly recommend it.
¿Qué culpa tiene Fatmagul? Merece estar en el primer puesto de este ranking por varias razones: no solo tiene un buen ritmo y actuaciones memorables, sino que jamás perdió el norte ni el rumbo, no metieron personajes innecesarios, manejaron un excelente desarrollo de personajes, y vaya que fue una historia fuerte, de hecho causó revuelo en Turquía y ayudó a formular y reformular algunas leyes, ya que la trama trata de una joven campesina que fue ultrajada por tres jovenes millonarios que al inicio no sufren ninguna consecuencia, y de hecho intentan "arreglar" la situación con dinero y un matrimonio arreglado con uno d elos jóvenes que, auqnue no paricipó en el cobarde acto, sí estuvo presente. Es una historia de lucha y resiliencia, de justicia y superación, así que la recomiendo totalmente.
