Catedral of Valencia (ESP/ENG)
Hello, people of the Internet, I was recently running errands in the city centre and I passed right in front of the cathedral of my city, so I saw the opportunity to take some pictures to show them to you as I like it a lot and it's also the perfect opportunity to upload my first post in this community.
Hola, gente de Internet, hace poco estaba haciendo diligencias por el centro de la ciudad y pasé justo frente a la catedral de mi ciudad, así que vi la oportunidad de hacer algunas fotos para mostrárselas ya que me gusta bastante y además también es la oportunidad perfecta para subir mi primer post en esta comunidad.
Formerly a parish church and now the city's cathedral and a national historic monument, the cathedral of Valencia began to be built in 1580 and was completed in the early 19th century, the delays being due to the region's wars of independence. It has a colonial style structure and is also the seat of the city's patron saint, the Virgen del Socorro.
Antes parroquia y hoy convertida en Catedral de la ciudad y monumento histórico nacional, la catedral de valencia empezó a ser construida en el año 1580 y se terminó de construir a principios del siglo XIX, los retrasos se debieron a las guerras independentistas de la región. Guarda un estilo de la época colonial en su estructura y además es la sede de la patrona de la ciudad, la virgen del socorro.
Inside I find it much more beautiful, it has (at least I think so) a baroque style, its columns are beautifully decorated with golden arabesques and are of corinthian style, also the ceiling has details in relief that look very nice and decorate very well, my favourite is the one of the angels that is in the central nave, But one of the things that attracts my attention the most are the stained glass windows with sacred motifs, since the natural light that comes through them gives an aura of peace to the enclosure and I think it is important to emphasize that some of them were made by Antonio Herrera Toro himself, a great plastic artist of our country.
Por dentro me parece mucho más bonita, tiene (al menos eso creo) un estilo barroco, sus columnas están bellamente adornadas con arabescos dorados y son de estilo corinto, también el techo tiene detalles en relieve que se ven muy bonitos y decoran muy bien, mi favorito es el de los ángeles que está en la nave central, pero una de las cosas que llama más mi atención son las ventanas de vitrales con motivos sacros, ya que la luz natural que se cuela a través de ellas le otorga un aura de paz al recinto y creo que es importante recalcar que algunos de ellos fueron elaborados por el propio Antonio Herrera Toro, un gran artista plástico de nuestro país.
It has several internal side chapels whose construction dates back to 1890, being the most relevant the one dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament, but the most visited by people is the one dedicated to the Virgin of help, and actually I consider it to be the most beautiful of all since the golden colour predominates, on this occasion it also had Christmas decorations for the Christmas season (which was when I attended).
Posee varias capillas internas laterales cuya construcción data de 1890, siendo la más relevante la dedicada al Santísimo Sacramento, pero la más visitada por las personas es la que está dedicada a la Virgen del Socorro, y en realidad considero que es la más hermosa de todas ya que predomina el color dorado, en esta ocasión también tenía adornos de navidad por la época decembrina (que fue cuando yo asistí)
There are several tombs inside the cathedral in which lie the bodies of three of the city's first bishops, as well as some heroes of the war of independence. The one in the photo belongs to Monsignor Henríquez and is located in the chapel of the Virgen del Socorro.

The clock that is in the tower has a curious history, it turns out that at the end of the war of independence an American landowner called Charles Hopner arrived in Venezuela, who later obtained Venezuelan nationality, this guy had been a corsair, that is to say, He made a pact with the regent of the cathedral. The former privateer was supposed to give him a watch valued at one thousand pesos and in exchange he would receive a piece of land near Tinaquillo valued at 500 pesos, but in addition he would also receive 500 pesos in cash. The clock arrived in 1828 but some parts were damaged, Hopner requested the parts from the USA but they took 2 years to arrive, however many speculated that the clock he had brought was used and of little value, as he had been a corsair and was not to be trusted.
El reloj que está en la torre tiene una historia curiosa, resulta que al finalizar la guerra de independencia llega a Venezuela un hacendado estadounidense llamado Charles Hopner, el cual obtuvo posteriormente la nacionalidad venezolana, este tipo había sido un corsario, es decir, un pirata designado por el gobierno de México y luego de Colombia para que combatiera buques españoles, él hizo un pacto con el regente de la catedral, se suponía que el ex corsario debía entregarle un reloj valorado en mil pesos y a cambio él recibiría un terreno cerca de Tinaquillo valorado en 500 pesos pero además recibiría también 500 pesos en efectivo. El reloj llegó en 1828 pero se le dañaron algunas piezas, Hopner solicitó las piezas a USA pero estas tardaron 2 años en llegar, sin embargo muchos especularon que el reloj que él había traído era usado y de poco valor, ya que él había sido un corsario y no se debía confiar en él.
The clock was finally inaugurated on 8 September 1831 and worked for 80 years with due maintenance and repairs until it was finally stopped in 1930 and could no longer be repaired.
Finalmente se inauguró el reloj el 8 de setiembre de 1831 y funcionó durante 80 años con su debido mantenimiento y reparaciones hasta que en 1930 se detuvo definitivamente y no admitió más reparaciones.
I have very good memories inside the cathedral, many masses I have attended, including the wedding of one of my cousins which was quite beautiful and emotional, also my sister's confirmation ceremony. It is not because it is the cathedral of my city but it is truly beautiful, it has great architectural, cultural and historical relevance. If you come to Valencia, don't miss it.
Tengo muy buenos recuerdos dentro de la catedral, muchas misas a las que he asistido, incluido el casamiento de una de mis primas el cual fue bastante bonito y emotivo, también la ceremonia de confirmación de mi hermana. No es porque sea la catedral de mi ciudad pero es verdaderamente hermosa, tiene gran relevancia arquitectónica, cultural e historia. Si vienen a Valencia, no dejen de visitarla.

It is inevitable not to miss the details of the ceiling! It is simply magical, I see that the protagonist of this church is the gold and that makes it look elegant and immaculate.
