The Way I Learn Korean on my Own (ENG/SPA)
Hello, Internet people How are you? Today I want to share how I am self-taught to learn Korean. It's my first time posting in this community so I'm excited about it.
Hola, gente de Internet ¿Cómo están? Hoy quiero compartir la manera en la que de forma autodidacta estoy aprendiendo coreano. Es mi primera vez publicando en esta comunidad así que me siento emocionada al respecto.
To begin with, I have to say that I clearly needed a support material (otherwise it would be impossible) so I use Duolingo, the funny thing is that I practically learn one language and practice the other since the Korean language learning is only available in English, I have to admit that this makes my learning a bit difficult since English is not my mother language, however I have noticed improvements, that is, I learn but a bit slower.
Para empezar, tengo que decir que claramente necesitaba un material de apoyo (de lo contrario seria imposible) así que utilizo Duolingo, lo gracioso es que prácticamente aprendo un idioma y practico el otro, ya que el aprendizaje del idioma Coreano solo está disponible en inglés, tengo que admitir que esto dificulta un poco mi aprendizaje porque el inglés no es mi idioma materno, sin embargo sí he notado mejorías, es decir, aprendo pero un poco más lento.
My most frequent mistakes are in fact not because I don't understand Korean, but because I don't put sentences in English correctly and that is what slows me down. At the beginning you start with Hangul (Korean writing) to learn letters and consonants, this way you can be guided and associate the words better, how they sound according to the letters. For example, I still can't fully read Hangul but I can associate the correct words by simply knowing which consonant or letter it starts and ends with.
Mis errores más frecuentes no son de hecho por no entender el coreano, sino por no colocar correctamente las oraciones en inglés, y eso es lo que me hace avanzar más lentamente. Al principio se empieza con el Hangul (escritura Coreana) a aprender letras y consonantes, de esta manera podemos guiarnos y asociar mejor las palabras, como suenan según las letras. Por ejemplo aún no leo totalmente el hangul pero si puedo asociar cuales son las palabras. correctas con simplemente saber con que consonante o letra empieza y termina
Now for example, I am on the fourth lesson "greetings" and I can now introduce myself in two ways "hello, I am ____" and "hello, my name is _____" I can also say goodbye, ask "how are you" and some single words. One of the difficulties of Korean is that it doesn't have articles so although constructing sentences should be easier, given that my language and even English is more complex in this aspect (articles) I tend to make the answers more complicated than they really are, I have to work on that.
Ahora por ejemplo, voy en la cuarta lección "saludos" y ahora puedo presentarme de dos maneras "hola, soy ____" y "Hola, mi nombre es_____" también sé despedirme, preguntar "¿cómo estás?" y algunas palabras sueltas. Una de las dificultades del coreano es que no tiene artículos, así que aunque construir las oraciones debería ser más sencillo, dado a que mi idioma e incluso el inglés es más complejo en este aspecto (los artículos) suelo complicar más las respuestas de lo que realmente son, tengo que trabajar en eso.
I also take notes of greetings and important words to expand my vocabulary, and I also know how to apologise and say thank you.
También tomo notas de saludos y palabras importantes para ir ampliando mi vocabulario, también me sé disculpar y agradecer.
One thing to keep in mind is that many phrases are divided into formal and informal and this is something that unfortunately the app doesn't explain. I was able to know this thanks to my Korean friends (it is very important to have friends who are native speakers of the language you are learning so that they can help you with these aspects and pronunciation) in fact I had a curious doubt, there are two ways to greet "Agñiohaseo" "Angñio" the first is formal, the second, informal, however the app showed me a third word "Yobuseo" and I didn't know the difference, I asked a Korean friend and he was the one who told me that this last form of greeting is used when talking on the phone, to answer it, so yes, it is mandatory to have Korean friends to help you with the language and later practice conversations.
Algo que hay que tener en cuenta y es que muchas frases se dividen en formales e informales y es algo que desafortunadamente la app no te explica. Pude saber esto gracias a mis amigos coreaos (es muy importante tener amigos nativos del idioma que aprendes para que puedan ayudarte con esos aspectos y la pronunciación) de hecho tuve una duda curiosa, hay dos formas para saludar "Agñiojaseo" "Angñio" la primera es la formal, la segunda, la informal, sin embargo la app me enseñó una tercera palabra "Yobuseo" y no sabía la diferencia, le pregunté a un amigo coreano y fue quien me dijo que esta última forma de saludar se usa al hablar por teléfono, para atenderlo, así que sí, es obligatorio tener amigos coreanos para ayudarte con el idioma y más adelante practicar conversaciones.
Another thing that another Korean friend recommended me is to watch Kdramas in their original language and repeat some words, in fact now I am watching one and I am happy to realise that I could recognise quite a few words, I also repeat some phrases or sentences with my friends to correct my pronunciation (which is complex).
Otra de las cosas que me recomendó otro amigo coreano es mirar Kdramas en su idioma original y repetir algunas palabras, de hecho ahora estoy mirando uno y me da alegría darme cuenta de que podía reconocer bastantes palabras, también repito algunas frases u oraciones con mis amigos para que corrijan mi pronunciación (la cuál es compleja)
I will continue my efforts to learn the language properly and to be able to communicate fluently, I will also upload my progress.

Creo que es admirable que estés aprendiendo un nuevo idioma apoyándote en uno que no es tu lengua materna. Eso hace el proceso mucho más demandante pero lo estás logrando y eso es increíble.

Guaooo aprendiendo prácticamente 2 idiomas a la vez, lo mejor es que ves los kdramas y aprendes idiomas,, todo junto. Jjjjaaaaaaa exitos

Jjeeeee mi hija también está en duolinguo en su curso de inglés y le encantan los dramas koreanos...jjjaaa yo veo los toros de lejo....mejor me han dicho q son adictivos
