Ticket to Paradise. Review [ENG-ESP]

Whenever we know that the protagonists of a movie are great actors and that they made productions that have become references and classics of American culture, we don’t need more reasons to want to see those movies.

Who does not remember Pretty Woman, it is a classic, although nowadays people talk about sexism and say a lot of things about how women are treated in this movie, the truth is that we all saw it, we liked it and we continue watching it, it is also true that after it we have seen many other productions with very similar love stories, with the prince who falls in love with the woman with a lower economic position. Of course, although I only mentioned this movie, it does not mean that it is the only Julia Roberts movie, but it was the one I thought of and that I consider to be the one that catapulted her as an excellent actress.

The same I can say about George Clooney who is also a great actor and despite the years he is still very attractive and with a great smile. Of his movies the ones I like the most or the ones I have in mind at the moment are those of the trilogy of The Great Swindle and in them he is accompanied by other good actors.

To see these two actors together in a romantic comedy in which they are not the main couple but the parents of the bride, is another level, I will tell you a little of the plot of this story since that is what they came for.

Cuando sabemos que los protagonistas de una película son grandes actores y que realizaron producciones que se han convertido en referentes y clásicos de la cultura estadounidense, no necesitamos más razones para querer ver esas películas.

Quién no se acuerda de Pretty Woman, es un clásico, aunque hoy en día se hable de sexismo y se digan muchas cosas sobre cómo se trata a las mujeres en esta película, lo cierto es que todos la vimos, nos gustó y la seguimos viendo, también es cierto que después de ella hemos visto muchas otras producciones con historias de amor muy parecidas, con el príncipe que se enamora de la mujer con una posición económica más baja. Por supuesto, aunque sólo he mencionado esta película, no quiere decir que sea la única de Julia Roberts, pero fue en la que pensé y la que considero que la catapultó como una excelente actriz.

Lo mismo puedo decir de George Clooney que también es un gran actor y a pesar de los años sigue siendo muy atractivo y con una gran sonrisa. De sus películas las que más me gustan o las que tengo en mente en este momento son las de la trilogía de La Gran Estafa y en ellas está acompañado de otros buenos actores.

Ver a estos dos actores juntos en una comedia romántica en la que no son la pareja protagonista sino los padres de la novia, es otro nivel, les contaré un poco del argumento de esta historia ya que para eso han venido.

Georgina (Julia Roberts) and David (George Clooney) are a divorced couple with a daughter (Lily) who has just graduated as a lawyer and they are extremely proud of her and have a professional life planned for her in the United States.

Lily, before starting her working life, goes on vacation to Bali with her friend Wren, where she meets Gede, a very handsome guy, native of the place and with very good feelings. Despite the short time getting to know each other they decide to get married and that is where Lily’s parents come into the game, who travel to Bali for the wedding of his daughter, although in reality they go with other intentions.

Georgina (Julia Roberts) y David (George Clooney) son un matrimonio divorciado con una hija (Lily) que acaba de licenciarse como abogada, de la que están muy orgullosos y para la que tienen planeada una vida profesional en Estados Unidos.

Lily, antes de comenzar su vida laboral, se va de vacaciones a Bali con su amiga Wren, donde conoce a Gede, un chico muy guapo, nativo del lugar y con muy buenos sentimientos. A pesar del poco tiempo que llevan conociéndose deciden casarse y es ahí donde entran en juego los padres de Lily, que viajan a Bali para la boda de su hija, aunque en realidad van con otras intenciones.

Although this film is not a production with a complex plot or has an unexpected ending with a shocking plot twist, it has these great actors in its cast and that makes the scenes as simple as they may seem to become objects to admire. It has funny, playful scenes, but also others in which parents realice that the best thing that can happen to them is that their daughter is happy.

Although Georgina and David go to Bali with the intention of making their daughter react and that she herself desists from the idea of marrying a stranger, when they arrive and meet Gede and see how happy he makes their daughter and the kind of relationship they have, little by little they question why they want their daughter to be unhappy and if it is worth following their plans.

Most of the film takes place in an earthly paradise, a fantastic scenery and photography full of colors and a beautiful beach. In it we can also see part of the culture and language of the Island by Gede’s family and everything related to the wedding.

Si bien esta película no es una producción con una trama compleja ni tiene un final inesperado con un giro argumental impactante, cuenta con estos grandes actores en su reparto y eso hace que las escenas por simples que parezcan se conviertan en objetos de admiración. Tiene escenas divertidas, juguetonas, pero también otras en las que los padres se dan cuenta de que lo mejor que les puede pasar es que su hija sea feliz.

Aunque Georgina y David van a Bali con la intención de hacer reaccionar a su hija y que ella misma desista de la idea de casarse con un desconocido, cuando llegan y conocen a Gede y ven lo feliz que hace a su hija y el tipo de relación que tienen, poco a poco se cuestionan por qué quieren que su hija sea infeliz y si merece la pena seguir sus planes.

La mayor parte de la película transcurre en un paraíso terrenal, un escenario fantástico y una fotografía llena de colores y una playa preciosa. En ella también podemos ver parte de la cultura e idioma de la Isla por parte de la familia de Gede y todo lo relacionado con la boda.

We have seen several comedies about ruining a wedding and these movies are predictable. Well, ticket to paradise is totally predictable, from the first moment I knew how it was going to end and although the ruses to end the wedding were a little silly, poor plot and nonsense, there were scenes that were worthwhile and in which I had fun and as you might suspect in these scenes are included the bride’s parents and the relationship between them.

As I mentioned it is not a production of the other world, rather it is very basic, with simple dialogues sometimes funny, sarcastic, melancholic, reflective but what it is, is that they are two parents believing they are doing the best for their daughter until they realice they are wrong and that the best thing is to trust.

This movie is a total Sunday movie. In fact, oddly enough, I saw it on Sunday and had a great time laughing with these two great actors who although it may not be one of their best films, they look great and never lost the spark to make it work the way it did. You will love the scenes of these two characters together.

So if you like predictable romantic comedies you have to see this one, but if you know what you’re going to find, don't get picky just enjoy.

Hemos visto varias comedias sobre arruinar una boda y estas películas son predecibles. Pues bien, ticket to paradise es totalmente predecible, desde el primer momento supe como iba a terminar y aunque las artimañas para acabar con la boda eran un poco ttontas con una trama pobre y sin sentido, había escenas que merecían la pena y en las que me divertí y como puedes sospechar en estas escenas están incluidos los padres de la novia y la relación entre ellos.

Como mencioné no es una producción del otro mundo, más bien es muy básica, con diálogos sencillos a veces graciosos, sarcásticos, melancólicos, reflexivos, pero de lo que se trata, es que son dos padres creyendo que hacen lo mejor para su hija hasta que se dan cuenta que están equivocados y que lo mejor es confiar.

Esta película es de domingo total. De hecho, curiosamente la vi un domingo y me lo pasé genial riéndome con estos dos grandes actores, que aunque no sea una de sus mejores películas, están estupendos y nunca perdieron la chispa para que funcionara como lo hizo. Te encantarán las escenas de estos dos personajes juntos.

Así que si te gustan las comedias románticas predecibles tienes que ver esta, pero sabes lo que te vas a encontrar, no te pongas exigente solo disfruta.
