Splinterlands Art Contest

Another week and opportunity to participate in the splinterlands contest. I really wish I could participate more but my day job keeps me really busy. But an art contest? Definitely must be a part of it!

This week I was inspired by

This lovely Queen as I will be referring to the Coastal sentry card

If you have ever used this card before you would understand how powerful she can be in battles more.
Process

So like always, I start with a sketch, unattractive at first but with a lot time and work poured in, it will turn into something somewhat cool so this time I went with line art before putting in the flat colours. And once the line art is in I go in with the flat colours. With the flat colours in go next with the shadows, I decided to give this piece a bit of cartoonish feel to it..

Once I'm satisfied enough with the shadows, and the way everything looks I go on to blend in the shadows. I usually pick a colour from surrounding background, and since I was going for something underwater I picked a dark blue-green colour, I always put the shadow layer on multiply.

I wanted it to look cartoonish with a little volume to it. Once that's done it's time to put in the lighter colours, this gives the piece a little more depth to it.

Once that is done and everything looks good, I put in the background, as you know backgrounds are not my strong suit, so I scribble a bunch of shapes in and of course my favourite part, I blur , give it enough detail to create the illusion of an underwater vibe

Once I'm done with that I add some more details like the bubbles, the background fishes and some other water features and then....you know this....I blur AND with all that blurring done, satisfied with how everything looks I go in with the final lighting to give off some light reflection. I use a white or close to white color to do this. And with that done, our 'COASTAL SENTRY' piece is done

I had fun doing this piece, total work time was 8 hours and I used the software 'Medi-bang'. I do hope y'all like it, see you on the next one ✌️
