Circolombia in Brighton !

Dreaming of far away places ? We may not be able to travel far at the moment but on Christmas Eve we were transported to Bogota with Circolombia Acelere. The Dome in Brighton has hosted many momentous events and this could be one of them for me. This ‘circus concert’ is a brilliant melange of Columbian music and breath-taking trapeze acts in a large vaulted space.

The Brighton Dome concert hall has a remarkable past. It was built as the stables for the Prince Regent, later George IV over two hundred years ago and is part of the wonderful Brighton Pavilion. It has an interesting history having been a skating rink and a military hospital for WW1 soldiers. It is now an events space in central Brighton on the South Coast of the UK.

The Circolombia Acelere performance was preceded by an act from the Brighton Charity ‘The Circus Project.’ Young performers gave an impressive performance of aerial circus skills. Good to see the young people having an opportunity to perform at the Dome and demonstrate what they have learnt.

Colombia’s national circus school, Circa Para Todos is committed to supporting and training young people at risk. Circolombia was created to provide professional opportunities for the young people to perform all over the world.

With ropes stretching across the stage and performers raised above and taking amazing risks, there were gasps from the audience. The music from Colombia is hypnotic and intense and immerses the audience to the stunning twirling and jumping from the performers.

Just what we needed at this challenging time of the pandemic. The Dome’s covid safety provision in this airy space meant we could enjoy the show. The music added to a show which left you tingling.
