My First Set Of Coffee Equipments For The Home Brew Bar

Can’t believe it's been 3 months now since my last post here!! Feels like it's been forever. This is definitely the longest time that I haven't posted for, I don't think I had content as such to put up or was it a creative block?

I'm taking a turn this year and moving into home brewing to up my coffee skills a notch. So I gifted myself for my Birthday a Pourover Set.

CB 41.jpg

Pourover brewing is a simple, yet precise method of making coffee, where hot water is poured over ground coffee beans in a filter, allowing the water to extract the coffee's flavour and aromas. The result is a clean, smooth, and flavourful cup of coffee, which is also the reason why many coffee enthusiasts prefer this method over others especially when they are starting out.

Here's what I got:

Origami S Turquoise Set (Rs 3,530/43 $)

When it comes to choosing your first pourover equipment, there are a wide variety of options available in the market, from basic plastic dripper's to high end stainless steel and ceramic dripper's. It can be overwhelming to choose the right one, but the most important thing is to find a dripper that suits your brewing style and preferences and to me it was the Origami Dripper which is a Ceramic Dripper. This is something I use at work and have hands on experience with already, Hence this was clearly the best option for me.

One of the unique features of the origami dripper is its ridges and valleys. These features help to create a more even extraction by allowing the coffee to bloom and expand during the brewing process. The ridges also create channels for the water to flow through, ensuring that the coffee grounds are evenly saturated. At work I use a WDT Tool to agitate the grounds for an even better extraction, will talk about the WDT Tool later on in some post.

To use an origami dripper, simply place the dripper on top of a mug or carafe, insert a filter, add freshly ground coffee, and slowly pour hot water over the coffee in a circular motion. The ridges and valleys of the dripper will help to ensure a consistent and even extraction, resulting in a delicious cup of coffee.

Fello Stagg EKG (Rs 16,999/196 $)

In addition to the dripper, you will also need a kettle with a narrow spout for precise pouring. The gooseneck kettle is the most popular choice, as it allows for more control over the flow of water. For me it the Fellow Stagg EKG which was hands down the best I could currently afford. (Mum Threw A Shoe At Me When She Found Out That I Paid So Much Just To Make Hot Water 😂)

Here's some of the reasons why this equipment is expensive:

  1. Precision Temperature Control: The Fellow Stagg EKG comes with a builtin PID controller that allows for precise temperature control within one degree Fahrenheit/Celsius. This means you can set the temperature exactly to your liking, ensuring optimal extraction and flavor for your coffee.

  2. Efficient Heating: The Stagg EKG has a powerful 1200 watt heating element that can heat water quickly and efficiently. This means you won't have to wait long for your water to heat up.

  3. Built-in Timer: The Stagg EKG also comes with a built-in timer,You can set the timer to count up or down. I honestly wouldn't be using this feature because I have a scale specifically used for this purpose.

  4. Beautiful Design: The Fellow Stagg EKG has a sleek, minimalist design that looks great on any countertop.

Now ain’t that a gorgeous looking kettle to make hot water 😂

Timemore Black Mirror Basic + (Rs 4,400/54 $)

A coffee scale is a specialised type of kitchen scale used in coffee brewing as they allow for precise measurements and consistency in brewing. It's primary function is to measure the weight of coffee beans before they are ground, which helps to ensure that the coffee to water ratio is consistent and accurate and this is essential because the ratio of coffee to water has a significant impact on the taste and quality of the final cup of coffee.

Even the grind size will make a significant impact on the taste and the difference is really insane! the slightest change in the grind size by even 0.5 changes the overall taste of the final cup tremendously

The Timemore Black Mirror Basic + scale is considered to be a high-quality and an affordable scale that is well suited for use in coffee brewing primarily. It features a sleek black design, a large backlit display, and a built-in timer that can be used to monitor the brewing process. The scale has a capacity of 2,000g and can measure in 0.1g increments, making it suitable for use with a wide range of brewing methods. Additionally, the scale includes a rechargeable battery, which can provide up to 20 hours of use on a single charge. Overall, the Timemore Black Mirror Basic+ scale is a popular choice among coffee enthusiasts and professionals alike, and it is generally considered to be a reliable and accurate tool for coffee brewing and other applications that require precise measurement.

Origami Paper Filter Cup 4 (Rs 564/ $)

Origami coffee filter paper typically comes in the form of flat, circular sheets that are folded into a cone shape before use. This cone shape helps to ensure a consistent flow of water through the coffee grounds, allowing for a more even extraction and a better tasting cup of coffee.

CB 28.jpg

Glass 7" Airscape (Rs 3,342/41 $)

An Airscape is type of coffee bean storage container that is designed to keep coffee beans fresher for longer. These containers typically have a unique one way valve in the lid that allows carbon dioxide (CO2) to escape from the container while preventing oxygen from entering. Ever noticed a small circular piece of plastic in your coffee packets ? That's the one way valve.

This is important because coffee beans naturally release CO2 as they age, and excessive exposure to oxygen cause the beans to become stale and lose their flavor.

CB 20.jpg

Airscape are available in Stainless Steel, Ceramic & Glass variants and come in size options of 4" 250g, 7" 500g and 1.2 Kg

Currently I've picked a nice corner of my room to have the coffee brewbar set up, Just waiting for my fixtures to come in from the carpenter this Saturday. This is going to be a full fledged manual coffee bar. Manual because I can't afford an Automatic Espresso Machine right now because I'm pretty sure I don't have 3 Lakhs sitting around in my bank 😂 but I do plan on acquiring a Flair Pro 2 and a Wacaco Nanopresso for a good manual espresso device.

Took my sweet time in making this ASMR video of my very first cup brewed at home, The audio are bits and pieces i've sourced from various other videos to achieve this ASMR, Hope you like it ❤️

That's all the update for now, see y'all really soon for yet another Coffee related post ❤
