Archaeology Museum / Arkeoloji Müzesi

Hello everyone. Yesterday I shared Gülhane park. Today I will try to share the archeology museum located right near the park. I had to wait in line for half an hour to enter the museum. More precisely, I had to wait because I did not have a museum card. I got a museum card for 60 Turkish Liras and I will be able to visit any museum I want for free for a year. It's really a great event. It is a must to have this card in a place like Istanbul, especially for those who love to travel like me. 🙂

Herkese merhaba. Dün Gülhane parkını paylaşmıştım. Bugün parkın hemen yakınlarında bulunan arkeoloji müzesini aktarmaya çalışacağım. Müzeye giriş yapabilmek için yarım saat sıra bekledim. Daha doğrusu müze kartım olmadığı için beklemek zorunda kaldım. 60 Türk Lirasına müze kartı çıkarttım ve bir yıl boyunca istediğim müzeyi ücretsiz olarak gezebileceğim. Gerçekten harika bir olay. İstanbul gibi bir yerde bu kartın olması şart özellikle benim gibi gezmeyi sevenler için. 🙂

After entering the building, I saw a huge area and frankly, I didn't expect so much. First of all, I made a plan in my head and chose to visit the big building first. On the right side of the door, a large statue of a woman was welcoming visitors. I entered the right side of the building and started to walk clockwise. I had the opportunity to chat with a person who I thought was in charge inside. He was a tourism guide and was promoting his caravan. It is very important to visit such places with a knowledgeable person.

İçeriye girdikten sonra büyük bir alanla karşılaştım açıkçası bu kadarını beklemiyordum. İlk olarak kafamda plan kurdum ve öncelikli olarak büyük binayı gezmeyi tercih ettim. Kapının hemen sağ tarafında büyük bir kadın heykeli ziyaretçilerini karşılıyordu. Binanın sağ bölümüne girerek saat yönünde gezmeye başladım. İçeride görevli olduğunu düşündüğüm bir kişiyle muhabbet etme imkanım oldu. Kendisi turizm rehberiymiş ve kafilesine tanıtım yapıyordu. Kısa süreliğine de olsa dahil oldum. Böyle yerleri bilgi sahibi bir kişiyle gezmek çok önemli.

After leaving the guide, I continued to walk around by myself. I think the person symbolizing the statue you see in the picture is a hunter or a butcher, because it resembles a chicken or a turkey. Apparently he likes to consume meat very much, he is glued to it 😅

Rehberin yanından ayrıldıktan sonra tek başıma gezmeye devam ettim. Resimde gördüğünüz heykeli simgeleyen kişi sanırım avcı ya da kasap diye düşünüyorum. Çünkü elindeki tavuğu ya da hindiyi andırıyor. Anlaşılan et tüketmeyi çok seviyor, sımsıkı yapışmış durumda. 😅

Some of the works have partial information, but most of them have no explanatory information, so I will try to interpret them myself. 🙂
The relief you see in this picture is trying to explain the chariot race. When I first saw it, I thought that he was performing the fallow (resting the soil) process with the horse. Because I remember when I was little they used to fallow the field with horses, cows, etc. and it looks extremely similar to this relief.

Yapıtların bazılarında kısmi bilgiler var ancak çoğunda açıklayı bilgi yok bu yüzden kendim yorumlamaya çalışacağım. 🙂
Bu resimde gördüğünüz kabartma araba yarışını anlatmaya çalışıyormuş. Ben ilk gördüğümde at ile tarlayı nadas(toprağı dinlendirme) işlemini gerçekleştiriyor diye düşünmüştüm. Çünkü küçükken at, inek vs hayvanlarla tarlayı nadas ettiklerini hatırlıyorum ve bu kabartmaya aşırı derecede benziyor.

Although I thought about this picture a lot, I couldn't come to a conclusion, but what I can think of is that the woman has a musical instrument in her hand and I think she is trying to sing. Maybe it's the wings of the woman I thought was a musical instrument, I wasn't sure ahahaah.

Bu resmin üzerinde çok fazla düşünmeme rağmen bir sonuca varamadım. Ancak aklıma gelenler kadının elinde bir müzik aleti var ve sanırım şarkı söylemeye çalışıyor. Belki de benim müzik aleti diye düşündüğüm kadının kanatları emin olamadım ahahaah.

This picture shows a woman with her arm cut off. She has a very simple appearance compared to the other sculptures. Judging by her dress, I think she is getting ready to go to a wedding or invited somewhere. 😅

Bu resimde kolu kesik bir bayan bulunuyor. Diğer heykellere göre oldukça sade bir görünüme sahip. Elbisesine bakılırsa sanırım düğüne gitmeye hazırlanıyor ya da bir yere davetli. 😅

Here, in my opinion, there are two adult figures having a conversation. Since they are standing close to each other, maybe they could be siblings. I think there is a sincere conversation between them. The person on the left looks a bit sad and seems to be trying to explain his problem. 🙂

Burada ise kanaatimce muhabbet eden iki yetişkin figürü bulunuyor. Birbirlerine yakın durdukları için belki de kardeş olabilirler. Aralarında samimi bir sohbet olduğunu düşünüyorum. Soldaki kişi sanırım biraz üzgün ve derdini anlatmaya çalışıyor gibi görünüyor. 🙂

Emperors must have a crown. Doesn't it look perfect? It's a marvel of pure gold. Another detail is that it has been preserved since before Christ. Who knows how many emperors wore this crown. Maybe it's just personalized. Of course, this is not the part that interests us.

İmparatorların olmazsa olmazı taçları.. Sizce de mükemmel görünmüyor mu? Saf altından yapılmış harika bir eser. Miladdan önce bu görünümü koruyarak gelmesi de başka bir detay. Kim bilir kaç tane imparator bu tacı taktı. Belki de sadece kişiye özel. Bizi ilgilendiren kısmı tabiki bu değil.

As far as I understand from the picture, this person symbolizes a high state dignitary. But I don't understand why there is only the head, and the eyes are looking at a different point.

Resimden anladığım kadarıyla bu kişi yüksek bir devlet büyüğünü simgeliyor. Ancak sadece kafa kısmının bulunmasına anlam veremedim. Gözleri de farklı bir noktaya bakıyor.

It is very famous in the neighborhood, especially for adult women to gossip through the window. I think the woman here also seems to be chatting with someone through the window. Especially the way her hands are tied strengthens my thesis. 😅

Mahalle aralarındaki özellikle yetişkin kadınların pencereden dedikoduları çok meşhurdur. Buradaki kadın da sanırım pencereden birisiyle sohbet ediyor gibi görünüyor. Özellikle ellerinin bağlanış şekli tezimi güçlendiriyor. 😅

Judging from the structure of this statue, I think he's an athlete. But judging from the dress, it could be something else. He also has a magnificent stance.

Bu heykelin yapısına bakılırsa sanırım sporcu. Ancak elbisesinden yola çıkarsak farklı bir şey de olabilir. Ayrıca ihtişamlı bir duruşu var.

One of my favorite sculptures. The woman with her dignity, her dress and everything. The architectural structure is carefully crafted on every side.

En beğendiğim heykellerden birisi. Kadın asaletiyle, elbisesiyle her şeyiyle on numara. Mimari yapı her yanıyla özenle işlenmiş.

I think what these people are holding is a shield. If my idea is correct, these people probably symbolize a military structure. The spear-like tools in their hands support my idea.

Bu kişilerin ellerinde bulunan sanırım kalkan. Eğer düşüncem doğruysa bu kişiler muhtemelen askeri bir yapıyı simgeliyor. Ellerindeki mızrağı andıran aletlerde düşüncemi destekler nitelikte.

And now we come to the most magnificent building in this section. An emperor who looks great in his posture, in his appearance. It's rendered in a way befitting an emperor. But there's a person under his feet and I don't understand that part. I hope he's not a cruel ruler.

Here they tried to describe a person lying on the couch, daydreaming. Maybe he is like this because he is tired. His long hair took me back to my university years. I grew my hair long for two years and it looked like this.

A baby looking at its mother with love and amazement. They look great, don't they? It is a nice detail that they try to make the mother and her baby look alike. Even though the mother's eyes are looking in a different direction, her mind is probably on her child.

Annesine sevgi ve hayretle bakan bir bebek. Harika görünüyorlar öyle değil mi? Anneyi ve bebeğini birbirine benzetmeye çalışmaları güzel bir detay olmuş. Annenin gözleri her ne kadar farklı yere baksa da muhtemelen aklı çocuğunda.

Here they tried to describe two dolls talking to each other. I think it's the toys they hold in their hands. The one on the right is trying to show something that belongs to him. Maybe they are brother and sister.
As I said, the museum is very big, so I will try to share the rest of it on other days. That's all I have to tell you. I highly recommend you to visit this museum. When you see the buildings belonging to different civilizations, it opens your horizons. It is also close to Gülhane Park, the science museum and many other places.
