Gavur Mahallesi Exhibition 🖌️Gavur Mahallesi Sergisi

Hello everyone, friends. I hope you are enjoying these sunny days. We decided to spend Sunday in the center of Izmir with my wife @bilginhilal. Normally, we prefer quiet and peaceful places. The reason for this is actually the parking problem. Because I hate looking for parking spaces. On the way, I thought of the multi-storey car park. After parking the vehicle, we walked a little in Kordon. Then I thought of the Gavur Mahallesi Exhibition, which we wanted to go to but never had the opportunity to do. My wife and I had passed by this place before. However, we did not have the opportunity to see the exhibition, as it was always evening. There may be those who remember. In one of my wife's previous posts, there were suitcases stuck between the stones. This remained a question mark in the minds of some of us. Let me give you some information about this with my own comments. ☺️

The first question we asked the attendant as soon as we entered the exhibition area was whether these suitcases sandwiched between marble blocks had a special meaning. The official's answer was 'it symbolizes the lives caught between two societies/cultures and the way of migration'. We were very surprised by this sad answer. But when I thought about it, it made imaginative sense. Later, when I asked what the main theme was, the answer was "exchange". We thanked and started to examine the works in the exhibition. Inside, we first encountered suitcases and suitcases, which were sandwiched between the marble blocks outside. But the suitcases here were colorful. I guess because the people outside are in the open area, their colors have faded due to external factors such as rain, sun and wind. The exhibits were more colorful and striking. In fact, everywhere in this exhibition was quite colorful except for a few areas. All colors were harmoniously positioned in the works. As soon as we walked in, everywhere and everything caught our attention.

İçeri girdiğimiz anda her yer, her şey dikkatimizi çekmişti.

While I was talking to my wife about what some of the works could mean, we couldn't understand how the time passed. It was clear that each work had a different meaning. However, although it is quite difficult to understand some of them, we carried out ideas based on the main theme of 'exchange'. I'm sure most of them had a sad story. In general, I think that topics such as separation, fatigue, longing, poverty are covered a lot. In fact, a part of the exhibition impressed me a lot. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't emotional. The work on display here consisted entirely of shoes. These shoes were probably about people who migrated. But on the other hand, it took me back to my childhood. I have thousands of memories on rubber shoes. The past unfolded before my eyes. The good thing is that my wife also knows these shoes. I immediately went and found Ermenek and Samsun production shoes and took their pictures.

Incidentally, I would like to thank Ahmet GÜNEŞTEKİN for his works for the exhibition. It was a different experience for us. After that, we will have the opportunity to visit more exhibitions. If anyone is interested, the exhibition continues until March 5, 2023. Also, those who want to watch can watch the video taken from the link I left below. Thank you too for taking the time for me.
