This is actually not my first time of sewing a dress with fullness or tail at the back, but it's my first time using Ankara fabric to make this particular style, most that I have previously sewn, I used lace or plain material like crepe and it's like, it's really gives the outfit a nice outcome but this time, I decided to try out this particular style with Ankara fabric to see what the outcome will look like.

Sarah was recently transferred from her office at Ibadan to ilorin where I reside to work, she got an apartment in the neighborhood and becomes my neighbor, as you may know, I work from home and most times, I'm indoor working on people's outfit and doing what I know how to do best😀, I got to know Sarah and she's a very nice lady. She sew most of the outfit I made and promised to bring her fabric someday for me to make something nice for her as she has always been seeing.

Just recently, Sarah told me she will be traveling for a wedding at Ibadan that she would like me to make a simple outfit for her, I told her not to worry as that is what I know how to do best. Sewing gives me great joy, I'm always so happy anytime I sit on my sewing machine to sew, anytime an opportunity present itself for me to sew, I always do it with joy in me.

Sarah brought her fabric and we thought of what to make with the 4yards of Ankara fabric she brought, after a while, she concluded that I should make something nice for her since she has been seeing a lot of designs from me, she believes I will make a great choice for her. I thought of this particular style and went to the market to buy materials needed to sew the outfit.

Cutting and sewing process

Since I will be using a slash and spread method, the first thing I did was to draft the pattern of the lower part on a brown paper to achieve that, after which it was placed on the main fabric to cut out same shape.

The back part was cut out as well with zipper allowance and also with full lining to turn it inside out for neat finishing just as it was also done for the front part before being sewn together.

After the lower part was cut and sewn, I set it aside and proceeded to the cutting of the upper bodice, to do this, I drafted out a princess dart bustier on a brown paper with yoke and it was duplicated on the main Ankara fabric while the yoke was cut with a matching colour lace fabric, the front and back were sewn together for the upper bodice with zipper allowance at the back.

The upper and lower part of the dress were neatly sewn together with zipper at the back, finally, I used the remaining fabric to cut out a basic long sleeve and sew it to the armhole circumference.

This is the final outcome of the dress I made for Sarah and she was so glad with the outcome of what I made for her.

It's great that you can enjoy the elaboration of each of your designs, that has a very favorable impact on the results.
I wish that your friend enjoys her new dress, which by the way is very pretty.
Best regards.
