Making a six pieces gown with puff sleeve for my cousin as a gift
Hello everyone
Greetings to you all in this creative community @diyhub, I hope you all are doing well, it's gives me great joy to be here today after awhile due to some challenge in my health but I'm happy to be back to this great community, I want to say a big thank you to @monica-ene for checking up on me throughout the time I was down, she is a sister and a friend indeed.
Today, I will be sharing with you my recent design of a six pieces gown I made for my cousin using 4yards of Ankara print fabric and a floral material.
My cousin was recently gifted this fabric by her mum from a wedding she was supposed to attend but for other reason, she was unable to attend the wedding, so the fabric was given to my cousin to sew since the date of the wedding has long pass, since then, I was unable to make it for her probably because I know all expenses will be on me, 😂😂😂
I decided to make this dress for her I soon as I was able to get left over materials from my recently made outfit for one of my client luckily enough for her, it was a matching colour floral material and it was used to a design on her own dress without costing me much.
Let's get started with the cutting and sewing process.
First, folded the fabric into two, using 7"for the wildness of the flare and measured out the nipple to nipple measurement from the waistline to the knee line before extending it outward to the full length, the center front was used to cut the other side by adding ease and seam allowance.
To cut the upper bodice, i drafted the upper bodice of the gown on a brown paper to make a princess dart bustier with yoke which was later transfer to the main fabric to cut out same shape. At the front part, I added warden to make the bust area stand firm.
The front and back panels of the lower bodice were sewn together
The upper bodice was sewn with the floral material to make the yoke and it was sewn to the lower part of the gown to make a complete dress
For the sleeves, I cut out a basic sleeve and a puffy sleeve at the wrist by cutting out x3of the round sleeve measurement which was gathered with and elastic band at the wrist and pleated to the basic sleeve.
Finally, the sleeve was sewn to the dress and I have a complete dress for my cousin for her Sunday outfit.
The gown is so beautiful and neat finishing, thanks for sharing dear.
Oh my! I love the result! You're so good at this, I really like the way you did the arms, it seems very elegant and graceful, since I don't like it when the straps for the arms are too tight. Great job! I bet you're cousin will love it too. 🤗😀 Have a nice day!
What a nice result! I have a sewing machine 🧵 and I have never dared to make a garment😜.
The fabric cutting is really nice, you did good.
