What's New With Hive Feb 18th 2024

Each week I like to dive in a bit on the hive blockchain and talk about things I notice myself going on. From new releases, beta, alphas, infrastructure changes and more. While I can't go over it all and will miss parts I invite anyone with a project or update they know about to leave a valuable comment about it so we can all stay well informed each week and make the most of what we have all contributed to and built here.

HiveSQL

It seems like this year and towards the end of last year we have really seen the fail systems of the hive blockchain. A lot of the front end stuff you see runs off of nodes and in this latest case of things being down HiveSQL which is in proposal https://peakd.com/hive-139531/@arcange/hivesql-proposal-2023-2024 and well we quickly found out it is a single point of failure.

Because of that we are starting to see others mitigate the issue by running their own HiveSQL which is now what InLeo is doing. Also take note that they are not asking for funds from the DHF and it's a direction I think we all need to start getting smarter about. This isn't talking specific of the HiveSQL but just everything on that DHF fund.

You have to ask yourself is this proposal only draining money and value from hive or is it producing value? If it's not producing value I say get rid of it and trim off the fat. We need to be smarter about what we push through these DHF proposals including the ones asking for hundreds of dollars on the daily. You can pretty much bet that the HBD being paid out to these DHF's are going to be sold off and create negative pressure on the price of hive. There's also no reason why a good portion of the projects that have gotten and still continue to get DHF funding couldn't implement some small changes to produce some revenue from their applications and thus either ask for less from the DHF or simply become self sufficient which I think is something all applications should be doing on hive.

If you feel otherwise that's perfectly fine and that's why you power up hive and cast your vote how you wish.

The Gaming Side

Not too many updates on the gaming side of things on the hive blockchain. Some news from Splinterlands about the next airdrop card and some general updates but nothing big in terms of releases or updates for this week.

Also just as a heads up but next week some time towards the end of Feb. 2024 Invennium a web 3 gaming platform will be doing a hard fork of the GenesisLeagueSports platform for Arcade Colony which will airdrop tokens for the hard fork for both SPS and GLX (I recommend you read the white paper for full details found here Arcade Colony Whitepaper for all of the details and updates about it).

That's most likely going to be one of the biggest upcoming events for the hive blockchain including the first release of a game on that platform called moonkarts. YEP no waiting around this time for a promise instead a game will be released which I feel is a huge step forward in doing it right.

I'm excited for this side of the hive blockchain it feels like one of the areas that continues to grow and really onboard new users to the hive blockchain and create value.

If the HiveSQL hadn't been attacked, I wouldn't have realized its failure would impact a lot of things. It's good that the Leo built its own. Hope to see more doing the same and won't be asking for funding from the DHF 😉

More games launching on Hive is a good thing. Exciting times!

It is definitely good news when people contribute more to the infrastructure on Hive.
