Screw it! /Reblog Lottery

You may be thinking to yourself did @bitcoinman just say screw it and make a shit post? Since I did share this ring desined in February however that one was printed with white glow in the dark filament and I also put in a mercury instead of the bluenose dime like I talked about in that post but there is a bit more to it.

Here is my custom gold ring made by "professionals" there are 3 prongs that hold the coin in place however gold is a very soft metal especially 24k and that is what this coin is, this system is not great and so I have some sticky tack to stop the coin from moving around and getting dammaged more than it has to.

Well here I present a new screw system!

Right off the bat getting the screw right was a nightmare and also I had to make some modifications to the design and refined it as I printed and tested, I starting with a slot trasitioning it to a ridge and then a beveled x. 3d printing is pretty great for rapid prototyping.

My 3d program constrained me with thread sizes and I had to use some creative work arounds to make it happen.

Below you can see some of the prototpes and failed attemts.
I am not really sure this is going to be the final desgin and also the end goal is to have them made out of precious metals.

that in it self brings is another layer of complexity and that will likely make me have to come back to the drawing board to make things work, this is not the most ideal system and I have some ideas to make it really nice but those ideas require even more resources to make happen, perhphs one day but for now we making it work with what we got and I am really looking forward to trying it out in metal.
