Back story

As you may know I am pretty big on AI, I also collect news stories as part of my work in the inleo team so I look over a fair bit of news.

Well I stumbled on an interesting piece about reddit selling data for AI training, wow such a big surprise I was actually taken a back by the amount of people that where surprised about this type of thing with the Cambridge Analytica scandal of 2018, I guess they thought that Facebook pays their employees pay for servers, CDN(Content delivery network) costs among many other expenses that the end user didn't directly pay for.

I hope moving forward more of you understand how this all works if it's free you are probably the product, this is not a new concept Richard Serra brought up this idea back in 1973 with his short film "Television Delivers People"

The Scoop

Reddit is in talks with an undisclosed major AI company negotiating the content licensing deal, this deal would allow this AI company to use user generated content to train their AI, It seems that reddit is trying to generate some revenue in anticipation of their IPO.

My Take

I think this is normal and to be expected there is no free pie out here these services cost money to deliver to the customer and so these companies have to find a way to make money using their users/user generated content.

That is why hive and inleo is the future, at least you can make something from your content.
