CROCHET VALENTINE SHIRT

Brown Cute Baby Photo Collage.png

Welcome everyone to this beautiful Monday. I hope you are all doing great. Today I am sharing a piece I made. This was made for a lovely couple and I must say I love how it turned out.

I was quite excited to start this project, not just because I love the colors they chose but because this would be my second time making a crochet shirt and I wanted to implement some of the things I learned from the last one on this one.

Somehow I underestimated the amount of work this shirt would require. I just figured it was regular granny stitches but I did not think it would come with its challenges. As I said in my previous post working with vertical stitches can be a bit tricky (I learned the hard way).

I had done about 70% of the work on the first shirt when I realized the length was way shorter than what I wanted it to be and even at that, I did not want to unravel because I had done quite a bit of work.

So, I tried the next best thing, which was to attach a new yarn to the project and try to add it to the already existing work. While that worked out fine, the perfectionist in me could not keep going because I thought people would know when they look at the piece and I wanted to do a good job.

Eventually, I just started afresh and made the starting chain about 4 inches longer than I wanted so that when it shrinks it would be the exact height I wanted and that worked perfectly. For this shirt, I started with the back piece, which seemed more straightforward than the front pieces. Also, I was working on both projects at the same time since they were going to the same person.

When I was done with the back piece I did the 4 front pieces. The neck was a bit tricky, so I made some notes on that for next time. Although I made it work, I feel it can be better. The hand was also straightforward.

One thing I did not particularly enjoy about this project was constantly having to change colors. It just made it more time-consuming. I was also worried about having to weave in the end but then I decided to just tie and burn, which turned out great.

Here is how it turned out after everything came together and I love it!

Awwwww thank you so much. I really tried to not start over but I ended up wasting more time trying to fix the error. I am happy I let it go in the end.

Wow! This is is so nice, definitely a lot of work put into achieving this beauty, I'm curious to know crocheting requires pattern cut on paper while working because it's the exact pattern if I'm to make a shirt, sewing of course. Great job!

Thank you! Yeah crochet project also require patterns like sewing, it helps prevent errors mostly. However, I am accustomed to working without them and doing the math as I go, which is not so great but it works for me

Hi @blezyn, what a beautiful job the color combination is perfect, I understand you, I am also a bit of a perfectionist, when a job doesn't fit as I imagined I take it off and start again, in the last few months I have taken my time when sewing and I check every step as I go along, this way I make sure the result is as expected or even better.

Happy and blessed week!
