A battle mage, charging into battle alongside his troops, he rallies and inspires them whilst unleashing deadly Water Magic upon his foes. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿง™๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

(Instead of the Silent Shavi, I've decided to write about River Hellondale. I've been renting this amazing card this week with great results!)

Mages are usually known to be aloof and isolated in their own Wizard Towers, rarely engaging in the affairs of Man. This mage's affinity to people however put him in good stead amongst them, where he defends and fights alongside his companions in battle.

The theme of this week's Share Your Battle Challenge - I give you RIVER HELLONDALE! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿง™๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

*River was born and raised in the city and lived on the coast his entire life. The view of the water from his bedroom window sparked his imagination as a child, and the sound of it lulled him to sleep. In time, he trained in water-based elemental magic and became an accomplished mage.

When an opportunity came to travel to Praetoria, he couldn't turn it down. Upon his arrival, his natural affinity for helping others landed him a role on New Everitt's town council. He bonded with the town's leader, Bera, and was her trusted confidant in all matters.

River felt particularly helpless when the Creeping Plague came to New Everitt. He could do nothing to help those suffering, but when the Chaos Legion arrived, he took up arms alongside Bera to defend the town he loved.*

SYB River Hellondale.png

River Hellondale is a Legendary card released during the Chaos Legion Expansion. It has definitely found it's place in many Water decks given its availability and usefulness. At LEVEL 1, it has 2 โš”๏ธMAGIC ATTACKโš”๏ธ and 2 ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸปSPEED๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป, with 1 ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธARMOR๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ and 4 โค๏ธHEALTHโค๏ธ. It has the RESURRECT ability at this level. It's summoning cost is also on the higher range at 7 ๐ŸงชMANA๐Ÿงช.

These stats make River Hellondale a very useful card with such abilities. Whilst his own offensive and defensive stats are nothing to shout about, the RESURRECT ability can completely turn the tide of battle. A once dead unit coming back to life will completely alter the battlefield.

River Hellondale's true strength manifests at lv 2 with the INSPIRE ability. This instantly turns him into the ultimate melee support unit, giving all melee +1 ATTACK. This could make all the difference if the battle comes down to the wire where the slightest advantage is the fine line between victory or defeat! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

The Chaos Legion expansion has given the Water splinter a really unique card in River Hellondale. This is a card that has moderate attacking power and pretty low stats overall. It definitely needs to be protected by other cards around it. However, at level 2, it's RESURRECT and INSPIRE ability almost turns it into a Summoner instead of a unit. With abilities that affect everyone on the battlefield, it's power in changing the face of the battle is astounding. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

This is the ONLY Water Splinter card with the RESURRECT ability and for the Modern format, only Demented Shark has INSPIRE too. This makes the skills he brings to the battlefield completely unmatched amongst all the cards in the Water Splinter!

This ensures that River Hellondale will definitely have it's own place here in all Water decks. This is definitely what I'd consider game changing! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

๐Ÿ“ŠCard Stats by Level๐Ÿ“Š

2.png

As we can see here, the main purpose of River Hellondale is to be a Support unit. Every level does NOT improve any of it's stats all the way to max levels where he attains a measly +1 to his attack. What makes him powerful lies purely in his abilites, RESURRECT at level 1, INSPIRE at level 2, and some icing on the cake with DISPEL at level 3.

All these cements his status as a rather frail unit who is fortunately still able to deal decent damage. He definitely needs to be protected and the payoff is well worth the risk with such powerful abilities he brings along with him.

๐Ÿ“Important Rulesets Rundown๐Ÿ“

โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ›กMy Battle Showcase๐Ÿ›กโš”๏ธ

Let me present a battle I fought recently in which I used River Hellondale. My opponent used the FIRE splinter, while I went for the WATER splinter. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒŠ

At first glance, it would seem like my opponent had quite an advantage over me.

  • His Summoner was 1 level higher than me.

  • ALL his units were Gold Foils AND also higher level than mine.

  • It was an "OPPORTUNITY" battle which traditionally favours the FIRE Splinter.

  • He even fielded an extremely strong Gold Foil Legendary Grum Flameblade in the frontline, which if he manages to score a kill, will activate BLOODLUST which will make him increasingly stronger.

Clearly, in terms of card rarity and card strength, I was completely out matched ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿคฃ. Would I be able to turn the tide of battle against such an opponent then? Victory or defeat would lie in the small details.

I would say that River Hellondale was DEFINITELY the MVP of this match, having played it's role in turning the tide of battle. It's support abilities managed to allow my units to compete effectively against a higher level opponent with higher level units! All the while chipping off at the opponent bit by bit. This ensured that the other units could eventually wear down the opponent until victory was achieved! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†

1st CARD SLOT

The Frost Giant takes the role of the Main Tank in the first slot here. It's SHIELD ability and high health makes it perfect for the task. It is an important role since the backline will fall if the Main Tank goes.

2nd CARD SLOT

The Kraken is also another amazing Tank who will serve to "suck up" damage from other units with it's TAUNT ability. This ensure the Frost Giant will not be overwhelmed and fall too quickly.

3rd CARD SLOT

The Sea Monster takes up this slot. It will be able to deal immense damage from this position because of the OPPORTUNITY ruleset. Should the Tanks fall, it will serve as the backup Tank, especially with it's HEAL ability.

4th CARD SLOT

The River Hellondale takes up this position. Protected right in the middle, it will weave it's magic over the entire team.

5th CARD SLOT

The Demented Shark sits in this position, protecting the backline and yet able to attack, and also buffing the team with INSPIRE.

6th CARD SLOT

The Disintegrator sits right behind to protect the backline too. It's DEMORALIZE ability will debuff the opponent's melee damage and thus reduce their overall damage dealt.

โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ›กBattle Action Report๐Ÿ›กโš”๏ธ

SYB River Hellondale.gif

As you can see, both of us fielded very melee centric decks from different splinters.

๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE ๐Ÿ”ฅ VS ๐ŸŒŠ WATER ๐ŸŒŠ

My opponent used Grum Flameblade as his main tank in the first slot which is an AMAZING choice, given how suitable he is as a tank. It also deals massive damage with its naturally high attack. The BLOODLUST ability makes it extra dangerous. His Molten Ogre and Disintegrator sat behind in the 2nd and 3rd slot as the backup tanks, while their DEMORALIZE ability also debuffed all my melee units. His Tenyii Striker, Tusk the Wide, and Goblin Mech rounded off the rest of his DPS in the next 3 slots.

My choice of the Main Tank was the Frost Giant with it's SHIELD ability in the first slot, followed by the Kraken in the second. The Kraken would be my co-tank since it's TAUNT would attract all the opponent's attacks. The 3rd and 4th slots were occupied by my Sea Monster and River Hellondale. The Sea Monster would be the 3rd backup tank and also one of the main DPS units, while the River Hellondale was nicely protected right in the middle. The Demented Shark and Disintegrator filled up slots 5 and 6 as my support/DPS/Sneak Backline Tanks.

The battle started out with all our units just duking it out pound for pound. It was quite a high mana ruleset with 52 mana as the limit. Both of us managed to fill out our teams hitting the limit or at least being really close to it.

  • The first wave surprisingly ended up with none of my units dying! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ In fact, the OPPORTUNITY ruleset allowed me to take out his Disintegrator which removed one layer of his DEMORALIZE debuffs, thus increasing my damage for the next round.

  • On my part, the Kraken with it's TAUNT and huge health pool managed to draw all attacks to it, protecting all my units!

  • This is where my team started to get a huge advantage. The 2nd round resulted in the opponent's Tenyii Striker falling next.

  • At this point, my Kraken died too! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ฑ However, the River Hellondale swooped in to SAVE THE DAY with it's RESURRECT ability, thus bringing the Kraken back to life again!

  • With such a huge advantage now, the next round saw my units pounding on my opponent and taking out Grum and the Goblin Mech.

  • There was no way back now as the subsequent mop up of his remaining units was a foregone conclusion at this point.

  • It ended up with my entire team, which was amazingly still completely intact, standing victorious over the battlefield! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Talk about doing WAY MORE than it was supposed to!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿฅณ All I expected from River Hellondale was for it to provide some support. Yet, it did more than that, and lasted through the entire battle and also provided the clutch RESURRECT that completely turned the tide of battle. It even dealt out a decent amount of damage on it's own through Magic Attacks. The battle ended up being a perfect battle with NONE of my units even suffering the slightest scratch! Surely that made it the Man of the Match for this battle, punching way above it's weight!

Well as you can see here in this GIF of my battle, the results were pretty good! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

This was truly an eye opener! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ†

Slowly, but surely, I wore down the opponent's team and the match was won handily with ALL of my units still left standing. It was a PERFECT VICTORY! My team selection proved to be the edge I needed to eventually overpower my opponent. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎHindsight is 20/20๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Would I have done anything differently? ๐Ÿค” This might have seemed like a match that would prove to be a challenge at the start because of the opponent's superior cards as compared to my team. However, with my PERFECT VICTORY with ZERO casualties, IF I had to use the same cards again, there would be no better lineup than what I had already used for the match. Any other combination MIGHT have resulted in a loss for me. I'm really satisfied with the results against such a worthy opponent. ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡

I definitely can appreciate the River Hellondale and it's strengths. This is one of those cards which are very strong if surrounded with the proper team. The role it brings to the battlefield will give a player the edge in squeezing out every tiny advantage to get the win. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

For any players looking to try out the River Hellondale, I hope this article has given you some insight into its potential. ๐Ÿ˜‰
