Best Laid Plans Of Bunnys and Bluefy

I am germinating 2 Butternut Squash, 8 National Pickling Cucumber, 4 Pumpkin, and 8 Watermelon Seeds.

Not that I am going to plant all of those seeds, when they become seedlings, but, I am germinating them. I will select the strongest of each, and plant 2 Butternut Squash, 4 National Pickling, 2 Pumpkin, and 4 Watermelon seedlings, into the 3 inch pots, above.

Each of those pots is filled with a potting soil mix, of 1/3 store bought, bagged potting soil, 1/3 coco coir, 1/3 compost. I have also added some perlite, for air and water retention.

My intention when I returned from an early morning run of errands, was to set up the 10 Gallon (37 liter) Fabric Grow Bags, for the Butternut and Spaghetti Squash, the Watermelon, and the Honeydew Melon. On the way back from my first stop, I zipped into the grocery store, and bought a few items. Came out, loaded my purchases into the car. Started it up, and put it into reverse to back up....

OKAAAAAAY it seems my car did NOT have reverse any more. Finally, the car in front of me left, and I tossed it into forward, thunking and bumping along to my regular, mechanic. He's known the car, since forever... and made a simple recommendation. It's old, and really not worth putting any money in. His guess? it would be at least $1500 to fix, and maybe more likely, $2000. I made the car limp and thunk home. It's in the driveway, and we'll figure out next steps. Likely, a purchase, of at least some kind of car.

So, long story to say, no, I did not get to the Fabric Grow Bags for squashes and melon.

My next tasks for me to accomplish, this coming week:

• I have another 20 grow bags, to fill, that's the last of them. A total of 20 or so for pepper, 45 or so for tomato, a half dozen for other plants. These will get my usual 1/3 garden soil, 1/3 peat, 1/3 compost mix, plus Espoma® Garden-Tone and some worm castings.
• I have ten 10 Gallon Grow Bags, for squash, melon, watermelon, and larger plants, that need soil/compost/peat and fertilizer mix.
• end of week, I will start Hardening OFF my peppers: transplanting outside, within 10 days.
• Next week, I will be hardening off Tomato, and following week, squash, Zucchini and more herbs! It takes about a week for Hardening off plants. so, once I start, I transplant in 7 or 8 days, depending on weather.

I need to find a couple of large container for the Blueberry Bushes.
