Bushes To Berries To Jellies and Jam

Raspberry Jam.jpg

Bush To Berries. Berries To Jam!

From Bush to Berries, to Making Raspberry Jam! Follow along as I show you step by step how I make Raspberry Jam, each fall. I use a sugar added recipe and also use some pectin. I've been making this jam for some time now, and my wife and daughters love it. The recipe I use was handed down to me by mom, and her mom before her. In honor of my mom's birthday, I edited and released this video. Hope you and Yia Yia are smiling down on me, as I carry on our family traditions.

Please let me know in the comments, do you make your own jelly and jams? What is your favorite Jam or Jelly? Let me know, below!

By the way, NEW EXCITING (and sad news too!) The USDA released new planting hardiness zones. I my gardens each stepped up a half zone, and now I am in Zone 7a/7b. Thank you, Global Climate Change.

Some of the ingredients I used in this recipe:
• Fresh or frozen Raspberries
• Sugar
• Pectin
• Jars
• Rings and Kids
• Tiny bit of Butter

Watch below, to see how I went from bushes to berries,
to a big ole' batch of Jam!

Most of you know, I prefer to grow my own food, locally. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking, planes, trains, and boats, to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

OH goodness, they actually changed the zones? A sobering reality I guess. My hubs is a strawberry jam man. Me? Cherry all the way

Irony Alert!
I actually prefer grape jelly or beach plum jam. My girls and wife eat the Raspberry Jam.
Cherry is just plain wrong. LOL!

Hahah! I love cherry jam! Cherry anything, actually. In Tasmania in the summer you can buy big bags of them and I'll sit and eat them out of a paper bag.

Grape jelly sounds so American! We dont really have that here.

We have some nearby vineyards, so, I actually made the grape jelly from a case of red grapes I bought from them.

(Edited)

BTW, the zones mostly bumped up a half zone (for people between 4-10 or so).
Some in there will not change, but, thanks to our friend global warming, many in the south are going to be experiencing even more drought and high heat.

They used to base the zones on 8000 or so weather stations. And the data is from 80's, 90's, etc. Including some record minimum's during the 30 year data. NOW, we have some 12,000 plus weather stations and those record cold data points have aged out.

You CAN!
You dont need to grow them, you can buy the berries from a store and make your own Jam!

We got a bump in our growing zone also. Jam looks great. We planted some raspberries last year but they were very small and haven't produced much yet. Interesting tips on the butter and progressive tightening.

It took me 3 years for any kind of decent harvest of Raspberries. Did you read up on cutting the floricanes and primocanes each spring? have to be careful which you cut, based on what type of Raspberry bush.

Since you didnt get much, I am guessing you have floricane type. Primocane type produce on first year canes. Floricane type produce on 2nd year canes.
