Canning Dill Pickles, and Bread n Butter Pickles

For those who prefer to watch on YouTube:

Many of you know, I grow vegetables during the spring, summer, and fall. but what to do with all those vegetables? Canning is one way to extend the harvest into the winter months and early spring when not as many vegetables are being harvested fresh.

Follow Along, as I step thru the process of making 2 kinds of Pickles, with the garden fresh National Pickling Cucumbers. If you do not grow your own, any seedless, smaller cucumber will do. Kirby, National Pickling and Boston Pickling all are known for smaller seeds, and a thicker skin for a fresh SNAP when pickling.

Most of you know, I prefer locally grown food. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. In fact, I prefer to grow my own food. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

Do you can any of your own food over winter?

Thanks for the tips again @bluefinstudios. I have read about this before and I can tell that they work as antioxidants judging by the recipe in the video.

How long can they last in that jar?

I've always wanted to grow my own cucumbers for pickling but I simply don't have the space. I'm going to see if I can twist the arm of my roommate...he pickles peppers so maybe I can show him the video and entice him to the pickling dark side 😆

Cucumbers grow up, vertical, so one container is good to start.

It's worth a try I think, if we don't yield much I'll chalk it up to a learning curve :)

If you like curry, try to add a little bit of the spices to one jar next time (mixed with the liquid first).

My family prefers the bread and butter so we do mostly those. I would prefer dill but 🤷‍♀️ Which do you like better?
