Size Matters - GroVid22 Potato Harvest

avatar

It's Harvest Time!

1st Grow Bag of Potato, for the season!
I did harvest ONE of three Grow Bag Potato Containers. Over the next week, I will do the other two and replant. I am also thinning Onion and Carrot each day. Hopefully to be able to use them, in daily cooking and meals.

ABOVE, When Potato Greens get yellow, and die off, it means, time to harvest. Now, I don't know about what you've been told, but I have heard, that size doesn't matter... in fact, I heard that,

everyone knows - its not the size. its how it tastes.

Fair enough, I will simply empty the Grow Bag out, and sift thru for the big, beautiful bounty!

Above: First, Empty the Fabric Grow Bag into a Wheel Barrow
Below: Hand Sift, and separate the two varieties.

Actually, sadly, I planted 3 varieties, Ruby Crescent (left), Red Bliss (right) and Yukon Gold. All the Yukon Gold seed potato were rotten. It is possible that they were over watered? but usually with Grown bags, that simply isn't the case...

... mean while, I gathered THE SMALLEST ever, batch of potato! The left pile is called ruby Crescent and while some were a couple inches (4-5 cm), the majority were not impressive. The right pile, is Red Bliss. Again, they were growing to 3 to 4 inches (8-12 cm) on average, last year, but NOOOOooooooooo, not this year. Looks more like my Red Bliss, will not be bringing any bliss to any Bonnie Lasses this year, will they?

I am secure enough in my gardenhood that I can hold me head up high. I will have to over compensate with other things, I guess. Maybe a Corvette or new Mustang Convertible with a big 302Boss Engine? Oh, maybe I can claim it's cold out and that's why they're so tiny? Damn.

Above: When my daughter and I first moved the Fabric Grow Bag, we found a SURPRISE! Strawberries, running free!
Below: I am beginning to see why these Cherry Tomato, are actually called Blueberry Cherry!

Above: Tons more tomato, growing, and beginning to ripen!
Below:Look closely, tons of onion starting to show, too!

Gardening To DO:

  • Harvest 2nd Potato Grow Bag, replant immediately (3rd will wait for a week)
  • Plant more red lettuce lettuce for the next round
  • Harvest the salad greens that are almost going to bolt!
  • thin carrot, think some more onion
  • Pick a ton of Raspberry each day! Last year, once I started, it was almost a pint of Raspberry each day (half to freezer for later jelly and jam making)!
LOTS More to come, from my GroVid22 Gardens!

Oh, my freaking goodness! I loved this, Greg.

YOU ARE HILARIOUS!!! 🤣

On a serious note 😉

I managed to find these tasting notes (no lies - check my sources):

Red Bliss:

creamy, firm, and moist flesh holds its shape source

Ruby Crescent

Many consider it the best tasting fingerling. Vigorous, good keeper. source

My, oh my...I think we have our winners 😂😂😂

Which do you prefer @dreemsteem , @juliamulcahy ? ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I won't ask seasoned potato growers like @bluefinstudios or @penderis for their views... although they are more than welcome to give them a fair shake and let us know.

ps: Hope you're not feeling too bummed about your potatoes, Greg.

pps: @dreemsteem.... RUNNING!

I'm thinking you wont have time to lament over the size of the potatoes ... tomato deluge will soon be incoming. Having said that.. those small potatoes.. especially the red skins make awesome potato salad.

Poor Greg! Hehehehehe!
I think, yes, a:

new Mustang Convertible with a big 302Boss Engine

Might help. Lol!

By the way, I would show you my garden but the sun is out.
In Ireland, that means, there's washing on the line! 😉
