Still Eating Fresh, From The Garden!

The Harvest is NOT Done YET...!

I was away for the weekend, at a Craft Fair, selling my images. When I arrived home, I had a pleasant surprise, to find a couple of small Orange Pepper, plus some Purple Pepper. I grabbed a small onion, and some Purple Carrot and a Yellow Carrot.

Roasted Vegetables

The veggies form the garden, Oven Roasted with some Olive Oil at 375. I sprinkled a little Garlic Powder (sorry, @dreemsteem, not trying to make you get hives)

The Asparagus is not from my Garden. it has a very long growing season and we expected to move, by now, so I did NOT plant it. I will, when we get to our final resting place.

Sirloin Steak Tips!
I cut Sirloin Tips into smaller pieces, and seasoned with a Montreal Steak Rub (paprika, cracked black and green pepper, sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Greek oregano and coriander).

Tips are a PERFECT Rare!

I prefer RARE when cooking Beef or Bison. At worst, it may cook a little longer (I try to plan around it and pull it a tad early). I tend to cut the pieces so that there are slightly thinner pieces, too and my family knows they can grab those slices, for Medium Rare.

Dinner Is Served!

Sirloin Steak Tips, Oven Roasted Vegetables, and Rice Pilaf.

I am certain in a week or three, maybe, most of the vegetable plants will not be producing. At some point, I will definitely make a post with a video about ALL of the harvests. In the meantime, I am enjoying picking fresh food for serving my family and giving away some to friends and family.

It's important: If you HAVE EXCESS, give to others... SHARE!
I believe this with my heart.

If you have excess ... share or dehydrate for winter eating.

Final resting place... you meant for the plants right? Not your final resting place?

Veggies look really good! If I end up staying in Costa Rica, it will be interesting to learn how to manage a year-round growing season. I'm not quite sure how that works with planting and harvest.

Succession planting.
Plant a second garden, mid way thru the year, is what some people do. Others plant a normal garden, and also plant crop that are made for year round.

That's what I've been wondering about... even a third planting might be appropriate. We've also thought about using huglekultur methods, even though the soil here is very volcanic and rich. Reason being, we get at least an inch of rainfall on most days. Some days it's more, and in the rainy season it's all but guaranteed. Plants suffer from root rot. We could put a canopy over the garden to deflect some of the rainfall or we could build raised beds in the style of huglekultur with extra emphasis placed on drainage and aeration. We'll just have to experiment and see.

the rains aren't the problem, its nutrients.
making sure you plant appropriate plants for acidic soils, and not arrid climate things.
The other plus is, rotating the second planting... meaning, do not replant the exact same type of plant. No tomato right into the ground where tomato was, no zucchini, into zucchini, etc. Change up what goes there.

Remember, Composting is your friend.

We are going to grow under fully organic conditions, which means composting is going to be essential. Off-grid is the eventual plan. We don't want to be dependent on municipal anything, especially water and electricity. I dunno about rain not being the problem; it's the problem for local farmers. Many erect greenhouse-type structures over their crops to divert the water. I'd rather just used raised beds filled with native soil or huglekultur filled with compost. I'm pretty excited to get started with all of this.

I so love that first pic, all the colorful veggies sliced, chopped, and waiting to be enjoyed! Nice composition! 😊
