Sowing Peas Outside

Sowing Peas, Outside!

Fresh Peas! Peas are a cold hardy crop, and are one of the very first vegetables I can plant outside, even a few weeks before the last frost date. They can take a frost, and thrive in the cooler temps of early spring. My gardens are in New England, zone 6b/7a.

I am sowing Golden Sweet Peas, and Giant Oregon Snow Peas. Follow along, and see my NUMBER ONE Pea Growing TIP!

Consider Watching and Subscribing on YouTube. It really helps me out!

Please give this a watch and perhaps, consider giving my video a like and subscribe to my channel. I could use all the help I can get.

Sowing Peas!

For the last few years, I have not planted nearly enough peas. How do I know? Simple, I would pick them (or my oldest daughter would) and we would eat them all ***BEFORE*** we managed to get any inside. This year, I am planting a dozen of each type of peas. Check out the video, for tips and technique of sowing your ***OWN* Peas!**

Most of you know, I prefer locally grown food. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. In fact, I prefer to grow my own food. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

Yes!

I recall you being part of the thriving garden community on hive. I am just getting into the prep for the family garden but #gardenhive blog has launched for the year.

I love the planting of beans and peas right in the ground. They are definitely hardy and make for some pretty damn nice vines and yield.

What kinda of peas do you prefer? I like the snap peas but so to the birds who sometimes eat my sprouts!

those pics are from my garden last year. Me? I prefer sweet golden peas. but the Giant Snow peas are a close second. The cool thing about Peas is they FIX Nitrogen. Meaning they pull Nitrogen from the air, and push it back into the ground... so, plant peas and they will help build a better garden soil. Plant a heavy nitrogen feeder in the same place next year.

I've grown Oregan peas before and they are so rewarding! They tend to go on forever and produce a great harvest. I can't wait to grow them again!

YEP! A favorite here, too. With my oldest as well. She loves them.

Your hook got me 😁 soak the peas first ✔️ We didn't grow any peas last year. We might add some this year. One of my neighbors was putting out some peas. Its too early but he said what the heck? I'll replant if I have to. We are 4a/4b.
