No Siesta, So We Walk Around at the Heart of the Town Fiesta Celebration

It's Fiesta!

We were invited to a household buffet to one of our colleagues. It's fiesta in town in honor of the Parish Patron Saint Sr. San Miguel the Archangel. Inviting friends, family, and colleagues over to enjoy a sumptuous meal is a part of the tradition.

We came during lunch there and we are met with these sumptuous foods on the table. I specially love lechon or the whole roasted pig. It's never absent during this kind of celebration. Other dishes were as good and with so much to choose from, it's kinda hard to decide which one I should eat so I took a little of everything.

The meal was so satisfying that I was thinking of a siesta afterwards. "Sakit sa baboy" had caught me. The phrase sakit sa baboy is literally translated to as pig's disease but it figuratively means that someone is acting like a pig wherein when full, feels drowsy and takes a nap. But we weren't in the comforts of our home so it couldn't be done. 😁

Since we couldn't have our siesta time, what would be the best way to do after a full meal is to take a walk to burn some calories.

So with this I am joining @tattoodjay 's #WednesdayWalk.

We headed to the parish church grounds to witness an exciting acitivity which is the ground demonstration. It was participated by different school's Drum and Bugle Corps.

As we arrived at the place, the colorful and joyous atmosphere was felt. It was a busy place as people started to arrived eager to witness the said activity.

People were moving around, back and forth trying to find a perfect spot. Many find the perfect spot under the shade of trees. The weather was very hot during that time so people are trying to look for a shady place and where they would have a good view of the performers later.

I walked around the parish grounds trying to find a shady spot too until I found myself in front of the church so I took a photo of it.

This is the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church in its grandeur.

As I turned my back, a large statue of St. Michael the Archangel defeating the devil is standing facing to the church.

This statue is the perfect representation of who St. Michael the Archangel is.

Moving forth, I noticed some of the trees were bearing beautiful flowers. It's my favorite part of this hot season, when trees bloom in their most beautiful.

I just learned from a post of fellow Filipino that this tree is called Golden Shower. I am amazed of this stunning beauty. The flowers are dangling or suspended like curtains. Care to zoom in the photo to see the beautiful details of how these flowers are naturally arranged.

Another tree that is showing off its beautiful flowers is this fire tree. I guess it lost its leaves due to this hot weather but not its beautiful flowers. And because of it, its flowers become more exposed. And it's such a stunning view.

I finally found a spot to stay and wait a while for the program to start. I was in the perfect spot to capture the participants as they passed by for the parade and was able to capture them in their glittering band costumes and instruments, wearing their charming smiles as they moved gracefully. They look stunning in their band costumes.

While the parade was moving, we also moved closer to the ground where the band exhibition will be held after the parade. We wstayed under a big tree. It was where the adorned image and karo (cart) of St Michael the Archangel was placed ready for the enthronement ceremony. It was beautifully decorated with flowers.

We stayed in this area until the parade was over and the program started. Around us were more people coming and different vendors taking advantage of the opportunity to sell more of products like balloons

and toys

When the program started, we watched the performers as they showcased their performances. I was delighted to be able to witness this event again since its the first time after the pandemic that the town was able to celebrate its fiesta and people come to share this joyous event.

And so I end this walk with photos of these lush green leaves of trees that provided us shades and protected us from the harmful sun. So I wish to sit here again next year.

Indeed it was fun but it was hot. 😁 It's what fiesta is all about. Inviting people to come and eat what they prepared and go watch cultural activities like this.

Happy fiesta!
It's so nice to see that the Philippines is almost returning back to normal - seeing fiesta in town is something we miss to see over the recent years because of the pandemic.
The costumes of the youngsters were very colorful! Nakakagana mag perform yan pag maganda costume.
Your town is nice! It's simple but there's a lot to see esp during fiesta!

Thank you witty! Thankful that in our town things get back to normal. Indeed fiesta is something we missed, the fun and the community linkages it creates.

I guess these youngsters are eager to perform. I guess it is also something thwy missed. Performing in front of the crowd. And true nakakagana pag ganda ng costume

Interesting word "sakit sa baboy". In Malay words, sakit is sicknest. Babi is pig. After reading this piece, next time I know what to do in front of my Filipino friends, when I'm having hard digestion due to overeating 🤣

Viva Sr San Miguel!
