Hola Hivers! Bienvenidos. || Hello Hivers! Welcome.

While it is true that when we are born and our parents leave us in the care of our grandparents they become our best friends, confidants, to such an extent that many times we even give them nicknames or start calling them pá, má, In my case my maternal great-grandparents I called them cucarachito (this nickname was given to me by my great-grandfather, so we called each other like that haha) and Lulu (for the little doll Lulu) I rarely saw them since they lived in another country but I am grateful that I had the joy of knowing them and sharing with them, even on special dates.

Today, the one I share most of my maternal grandparents with is my grandfather who thank God is still alive, 74 years old but with an attitude of 18, of his grandchildren there are only two of us women, I am the oldest so when he comes to my house he starts to bother me, He pulls my hair, tells me to pull out a ''ghost'' splinter that he always has in his finger, asks me to make him coffee and so on, but I love that because they are memories that will stay with me, besides I enjoy his pranks a lot.

His wife Maria (as I used to call her), my mother's stepmother, is no longer with us but she earned a very big place in our hearts, when I was a little girl she took care of me and even though we had no blood ties, she became a grandmother with her actions, care and words. Always so attentive to my mom and me until the last moment, the best memory I have of her is when she sat in her little rocking chair to knit and made magic with her crochet needles.

When my parents opened their business my paternal grandparents were the ones who took care of me, with them I created a giant bond of love, in spite of not having a nickname, they were the ones with whom I felt the safest in the world, my grandmother was a very affectionate woman with all her grandchildren, she always wanted to see us well, she pampered us, spoiled us, spoiled us, and advised us, on the other hand my grandfather was delighted with me because my dad being the youngest son and the spoiled one had a daughter (me) who looks a lot like him, then it was enough that my grandfather saw me to tell me and I always remember his words ''my life, my beautiful love, you look so much like your dad and my mom'' and he was happy haha, I miss them and I remember with much love ❤️

If I had to choose a favorite grandparent I would say that would be my paternal grandmother, her name was Marina like the sea and the sand, she taught us that with love, patience and speaking calmly we can correct and educate, her love story with my grandfather is actually very beautiful and I remember that she always told it to me because she was a lady in love with love. I remember how she used to apply her make-up, the creams she used to apply, with her little mirror in her hand, always well groomed and smelling delicious, a winner of breast cancer and an excellent grandmother, she was one of those ladies who rolled up the little she had in her hand and gave it to you on the sly so that ''you would have enough to buy something''.

She made delicious spaghetti that we all loved and she would gather us together on Sundays, so much so that the day of her departure the family was more united as she always liked to see us. When I grew up I started to experience having a boyfriend, remember she would give me advice and always asked me how I was doing, to tell her everything because as I said she loved to talk about love, sometimes my grandfather would join the talks and we would end up talking about how they met, how they got married and so on, but the most important thing is that I loved to listen to them.

I remember that when my grandfather died my grandmother's world fell apart, she had such a strong shock that her Alzheimer's went off and she could no longer speak, she would only repeat a sentence and ask for my grandfather often. Her children began to have conversations about whether it was better or not to leave her in an old people's home, they came to the conclusion that the best thing was to take her to a home where she would be taken care of and so on, so when they went to tell her very carefully that they would take her to a nursing home, she said she did not want to because she was afraid, so my dad said she could stay with us and if the other siblings accepted she could spend some time in their homes too.

When they reach a certain age they become children again, they are afraid, they do not want to be alone and that is where we must have more love and patience, that is why if they ask me: Would you leave your grandparents in a nursing home? I would answer that everything will depend on them, if they want to go to a nursing home and share with people of their age then I would take them and visit them, now if they say no, that they are afraid of those places then I would respect them and bring them home with me, I would hire a nurse to watch them in case they need any special care as we did with my grandmother, but I would always be by their side so that they feel my company.

The truth is that I am very grateful to God and life for lending me the grandparents and great-grandparents that touched me, I feel that I could not have had better ones, they were loving, understanding, special in their own way. I learned a lot from them and the most important thing is that they filled my childhood and adolescence with beautiful memories ❤️.

Oh, what a beautiful tribute you have made to your grandparents.
The story of your grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer's after your grandfather passed away... yes, sometimes it happens. It's sad and the only help is to continue to love them and take care of them as best as possible.

Thank you for your beautiful post. I hope you can review the posts of other users too, it is nice and important that the members of this platform support each other :)

Thank you, I'm really grateful for all the love you gave me. It's a little sad that you don't have pictures of them 😔 Maybe your parents have very good memories of them that they can tell you about.
Blessings to you and your family too ❤️
