Wood Carving at Mount Hope

In the province of British Columbia lies a city in the mountains, adequately named the town of Hope Mountain! It is a small town, quiet, one of those places where "everybody knows everybody else!" In fact, during the time of our arrival, there was a Christmas movie being shot in the middle of July! 😆

Anyway, Mount Hope holds an annual chainsaw/wood carving contest! During this event, locals and artists will take a log of wood, and the rest is up to their imagination! 😃 It is absolutely incredible to see some of the works people can create using saws and wood!

Here are just a few of the photos I was able to capture:

This was a lovely piece right by the water, dedicated to the Rotary International club. In this case, the piece was dedicated to fishermen, and I believe the giant fish is meant to be salmon (yummy!).

I loved this piece for its perspective, but unfortunately it made it difficult to get a good angle of the art! 😩 However, it appears to depict two mountain lions, or cougars, in the midst of a battle!

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but this sculpture looks an awful lot like a kookaburra, does it not? 🤔 They are not native to Canada obviously, so I cannot help but wonder if the artist just has a particular love for the bird! Or, it could be a mythological creatures I am unfamiliar with?...

I thought this one was cute~ As a child, I often enjoyed the fairy tales of gnomes and elves inhabiting the trees of the forests! It was great seeing this.

A tad creepy, nothing to see here! Just a Native American man's face, peeking out from within the tree! 👀

This one was my favorite, and for good reason. Not only does it feature an array of beautiful, ferocious animals, but the amount of detail that went into this is incredible!

I thought these were lovely touches to the city as well. The old movie theatre and clock tower gave off some very nostalgic vibes!

This is the final inhabitant I will leave you with! 😄 He is from a neighboring city nearby, and is known as Woody the Woodchuck!

Interesting woodworks!
Asides Woody the Woodchuck, these sculptures have an ancient feel to them...like some artwork from centuries back.

I wish I could jump into your pictures and explore all the wood sculptures. I adore how well-preserved the clock tower is despite being quite old and vintage. I might look on YouTube to see if anyone has uploaded a video so I can pretend I'm there. Thanks for posting this, @borderline.babe.
