Real bigotry: woman arrested for a racist rant and assault in Plano, Texas

Esmeralda Upton (pictured above) was recently arrested in the Dallas suburb of Plano for approaching several Asian women in a restaurant parking lot, yelling insults and threats at them and physically assaulting one of the women who decided to video-record the event on her smart phone. The assault apparently did not result in any injuries worthy of a mention but the fact that the assault took place at all, in combination with direct death threats, makes Ms Upton's crime rather serious and hopefully the justice system will treat it accordingly.
Based on what I know, most episodes of bigotry in the US don't go beyond episodes like this one. Thus the assumption that the recent wave of murders in the Muslim community in Albuquerque, while not completely unfounded, should not have been society's default assumption, in this author's opinion. That level of violence motivated by religious, ethnic or racial bigotry is rather rare.

It's not so rare at all...
Serious violence motivated by race?
I'd say it is. Most murders in the country are gang- (read: drug trade) related. Not saying it does not happen, of course, but there's many other kinds of violence that are far more common.
Well...
Coming from New Jersey and living in Texas I would disagree.
And I know it is unnoticeable, as it is an accepted lifestyle for some who live here.
There may be "other violence" that is more deadly, but not more common.
I am not sure what you are referring to but how can it be serious if it is unnoticeable? What are we talking - someone writing something racist on your locker when no one sees or something like that? I am not saying that isn't asshat type of behaviour - but that is not the same as being assaulted.
What "is" serious is what it does to "minds" over time...
That is also what I meant with coming from somewhere else.. You can notice it, especially if you get to see a few generations.
