MISTY DAY ON THE ROAD TO THE CITY

avatar
(Edited)

I was driving to the city late in the morning on the last day of 2021. Had to buy some stuff in the electronics shop in the suburbs.

img_2255_malo.jpg

The day was pretty warm, mist was hanging in the air ...

img_2260_malo.jpg

... so I stopped by the road to get a couple of photographs ...

img_2256_malo.jpg

... because the atmosphere was really nice. And doesn't happen every day. It was my last chance to grab some mist before the year expires.

The experts in road traffic probably have plenty of statistics that show the importance of having the headlights on during the day, even on a sunny day. For me, the main reason and benefit of the lights being on is the way they look in photographs. The cars look a bit like demonic machines with shiny eyes. Which is pretty cool.

My first stop was just outside Medulin, my hometown, two or three kilometers on the road that leads to Pula, the nearest city. I watched the cars for a couple of minutes, took a couple of shots, and then ...

img_2262_malo.jpg

... continued this little journey.

img_2270_malo.jpg

The next stop was a couple of kilometers further ...

img_2272_malo.jpg

... five kilometers from the city ...

img_2267_malo.jpg

... near the large roundabout situated halfway in between my hometown and the city.

img_2266_malo.jpg

Usually, I see some parts of the city very well from here ...

img_2264_malo.jpg

... but this time the view was foggy. Details were less visible, but the overall atmosphere looked better than usual. Here you can see the powerlines and suburban houses behind those powerlines, while in the following shot ...

img_2263_malo.jpg

... the powerlines are framed by the poles of streetlamps around the roundabout and the foggy background is made of fields and groves because this photograph was taken with the camera pointed towards my hometown.

img_2268_malo.jpg

At one point two recreational cyclists passed by ...

img_2269_malo.jpg

... and ended up in this post.

img_2271_malo.jpg

I parked near this little stand. You can buy fruits and vegetables from the surrounding fields here, but only in summer. After taking this shot, I drove directly to the city.

The electronics shop is situated in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Pula. Most buildings there are modern or relatively modern, kind of ugly rectangular boxes. But among them, you can find some old jewels. In the times of the Austro - Hungarian empire this was the elite area built for the naval officers.

The old, decaying mansions are still beautiful and create a stark contrast with the blandness of surrounding architecture.

(Enlargeable)

The seagull was posing on the top of the chimney and looked like an elegant temporary ornament.

(Enlargeable)

I passed by the mansion on the walk from the car to the shop and back, and I took these last photographs when the shopping was done and I was ready to drive back home.

AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.

The road and the environment both look nice but look a bit dark due to the misty. The seagull is posing so beautifully. Beautiful photography

Such a beautiful sight to behold, though the mist seems to made everywhere kind of dark.

Lovely ... because I live by the seacoast, fog is common, but this type of ground mist is very rare and special...

Here when it gets foggy in late autumn and winter, the fog covers large areas. Along the coast is relatively common but inland in the narrow valleys between hills happens practically every morning. 🙂 Fog can be annoying, and I feel some annoying meteoropathy symptoms in that kind of weather, but for photography, the fog is precious.

I live in San Francisco, and yes, the fog is special for photos, although it can get one down when there is so much of it...

I saw some spectacular fogs on TV filmed in San Francisco. I don't remember now if those were movies, fiction, or documentaries.

Could have been any of them ... it is a major feature of the imagery of the city. It even has its own name. "Karl" comes through for his vacation in the late spring through the late summer in particular, but floats in just about any time of year, though less in the winter.

Your hometown has so many objects that can be photographed, cars on the road also look artistic, accompanied by light fog.

The first photo between the road, the vehicle and the fog looks very classic, the atmosphere is so perfect as if the atmosphere was in the past. 🥰🥰

Yes, the fog is great for the atmosphere. Usual landscapes look more interesting than usual.

It seems that in this city, a sharp contrast between various styles, minimalism and empire, has manifested itself in architecture. The current faceless boxes of houses in the style of the architect Corbusier, and the old imperial grandeur of the mansions of the times of Austria-Hungary. The difference between the styles is striking.

Yes, there is plenty of contrast created through layers of history.
