ON THE ROAD IN 2011

Here you can see Motovun. The old town on the hill in the central - northern part of Istra, this peninsula on which I live.

This photograph was taken somewhere along the road, in the central part of the peninsula.

I don't remember where this shot was taken. It could be Motovun, but who knows. From a distance, the town is pretty unique, but some neighborhoods can be easily confused with similar neighborhoods in other old towns in the area.

Here again, I can't tell you the exact place.

This is a roadside tavern relatively close to the city of Pazin. I have to drive approximately 60 - 65 kilometers from my hometown to Pazin, and about 80 - 85 to Motovun.

The photographs in this post were taken in the winter of 2011. I don't remember anything about that day, anything about the drive and the occasion. In this case, is like I never took those photographs. I see them just like you, like an observer that has nothing to do with their creation. It was long enough ago to be completely forgotten. I remember all the macro photographs I took even in the years prior to 2011, but when it comes to these more generic shots taken on the road, they exist only in folders on my computer, not in my memory. I do recognize some places shown in these pictures, but some details and stretches of the road are a mystery to me today.

Always great to look back at older folders and see what’s in there. I do that… sometimes, I don’t remember sometimes I do and great memories appear 😎

I haven't been a photographer long enough to forget the outings when I took my photos ... yet. I'm getting to that point though. What I'm curious about is how you store all your pics, dating back as far back as 2011. Do you really keep them all on your hard drive? It's such a massive amount of memory! ... Obviously Hive is a gold mine for photographers, since we can always find a way to use the old ones. I've been thinking about clearing space by deleting some photos, but that's probably not a good move.

I store them on external hards since 2007. The photographs are old, and so are the hards. 🙂I mean, those machines look like real antiquities now. Since I'm on HIVE, I also store them on external hards but I have considerably fewer photographs to store because when the best shots for the post are selected the rest gets deleted forever. Blogging it's a great incentive to organize all those files, old and new.
When I delete the obsolete photographs, there isn't so much to store. Before the blogging, I didn't have an incentive to go through all that I shot and select the best. It's a boring process that doesn't have much sense if you don't plan to publish your work or make some kind of product out of those photographs.

Yeah, I wondered if there was some secret that allowed you to store them on the computer directly. I'll need to invest in some external drives soon, I guess. It's definitely worth having an archive; for one thing, I keep getting better at Photoshop, so some of my old ones that I couldn't process can now be saved and used.

Yes, the old photographs can inspire some brand new ideas that can be realized through Photoshop. I came across many old photographs that don't look especially good nor mean anything to me at this point, but they can be very useful when put in a story accompanied by some other, often unrelated shots. That's the great thing about blogging. I mean, of the rewarding, incentivized crypto blogging. I never felt the need to blog about anything before I discovered Steemit and then got into HIVE. Now, that's my obsession. Everywhere I go, in everything I do - I have a future post in mind. And it's a healthy, creative obsession that makes me enjoy the simple, everyday life more than before. Small, ordinary things feel more like expeditions and adventures than the usual mundane things. 🙂Everything can become a story, and that's pretty cool.

That's awesome how everything became a story for you! I have a similar experience on my photoshoots; I always think "better get a shot of that, so I can show how I moved through the landscape." For me, I started as a writer and took up photography just to have photos for Steem. I originally just wanted cover photos for my stories or poems, but then photography became a passion of its own.

Photos are great stuff and he always dutifully document something. At some point in the future, these photos will take you back to the original, beautiful or sad day, which is great.

It's very clear that the old city is on the hill, but there are still lots of vacant lands, right?
