SHIFTING ABSTRACTIONS IN THE PORT OF LIZNJAN

avatar

It's raining now, but the day started bright and sunny, so I drove to the port of Liznjan, the small village not far from the place where I live.

(Enlargeable)

There, among various fishing boats, relatively big and pretty small, my attention was caught by the dancing images on the surface of the sea.

(Enlargeable)

The experience was surprisingly artsy.

(Enlargeable)

Like a visit to the liquid museum of relatively modern art.

img_6103_malo.jpg

Besides these reflected exhibits, I found and photographed some more somber, realistic details that are a bit out of the theme in this post, but I put them in nonetheless to show you today's atmosphere. Here you can see an anchor. Just a simple metal anchor made for small boats.

img_6102_malo.jpg

Here you can see the same kind of anchor, but this one is old and rusted. Separately these very common anchors don't look interesting, but when you put them together, they become almost like characters, and some kind of little story is created.

(Enlargeable)

Here the focus is back on the reflections.

(Enlargeable)

The sea was a magic canvas ...

(Enlargeable)

... on which new artworks are created in fragments of a second.

img_6099_malo.jpg

Here you can take a wider look at the port.

img_6100_malo.jpg

The biggest fishing boats, used for hunting the sardines in large quantities, were parked at the end of the main dock, where the water is deeper.

img_6101_malo.jpg

Some small boat passed by those big ones on its way out of the bay. It was a cool little scene, so it ended up in this photograph.

(Enlargeable)

The variety of interesting reflections was amazing ...

(Enlargeable)

... and kind of overwhelming.

(Enlargeable)

In this series of shots, you can see some strange hieroglyphics dancing on the water.

(Enlargeable)

These are all distorted versions of the city code and registration numbers on a small blue boat in the shallow water. You can see the original in the upper left corner of this four-part picture.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see again some completely abstract reflections. No letters, no numbers, no hieroglyphics.

img_6159_malo.jpg

Just some organic stuff that resembles the shapes in the Rorshach test ...

img_6154_malo.jpg

... but today, while observing the details on the PC screen, while preparing the definitive versions of the pictures for the post ...

img_6162_kropmalo.jpg

... I found a pseudo-figurative detail even in these abstractions. I cropped the picture to accentuate the expressive face that appeared for a moment and remained frozen on the photograph.

(Enlargeable)

These outboard engine variations are more realistic ...

(Enlargeable)

... for a change.

(Enlargeable)

Here the things have turned abstract again.

(Enlargeable)

This picture continues with similar shapes and colors.

img_6104_malo.jpg

Here you can see a combination of distorted reflections on the surface and some realistic stuff under the water.

img_6153_malo.jpg

This is a completely different detail that has nothing to do with reflections and distortions. Ordinary pincers on some small boat.

img_6201_malo.jpg

This is a reflection of some elegant traditional boat made of wood, painted in white and light blue.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see more variations on that theme.

(Enlargeable)

This is the last one ...

(Enlargeable)

... followed by more abstract stuff ...

(Enlargeable)

... from a bigger boat in deeper water.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see some lovely font distortions ...

(Enlargeable)

... photographed on shallow water.

(Enlargeable)

This is from a nearby boat.

(Enlargeable)

These are the reflections from another similar boat ...

img_6186_malo.jpg

... probably not far from there.

(Enlargeable)

And that's all. As always in these posts on HIVE, the photographs are my work.

I love this on the grounds of loving reflections in the water ... can watch for hours ... but also because as an artist who works in fractal geometry, I see the relationship between even the abstract shapes!

Awesome Reflection Photography. You have captured all the reflection photography beautifully. Maybe this time was some wave in the river...

Hello your photos are very interesting. A reflection with a ripple of the water gives a very nice rendering. I also saw other of your posts as the field filled with squash, what surprised me in the squash post was the earth that looks more like sand than earth.
