SIMPLY RED

Red is a powerful signaling color in nature. The complementary combination of red and green that will appear in quite a few incarnations in this post can also have a strong impact on the viewer. This is, essentially a simple collection of red plant parts, mushrooms, and insects that I photographed in the last couple of years.

In this opening photograph, you can see the beautiful red leaf beetle Lilioceris lilii.

In this recent shot taken only a month or two ago, you can see the iconic red poppies (Papaver rhoeas) popping out of lush green vegetation.

Here you can take an up-close, macro look at a strawberry.

The cultivated Fragaria vesca strawberry ...

... that grew on the third floor, in the large pot on the terrace of a friend that lives in the city.

here you can see a mushroom for a change. Some species from the genus Russula in the Russulaceae family.

Some of these very similar red Russulas are edibles, others are poisonous. Sometimes, the red signals can be pretty confusing.

(Enlargeable)

These red berries of the Smilax aspera plant formed a lovely natural decoration that looks like some jewelry made of red corals.

Here you can see another strawberry. This one was bought in the supermarket a couple of days ago.

img_8325_malo

It was pretty unique and stood out in the package, so I decided to take a couple of shots before eating the fruit. The strawberry was photographed on the blue nylon that came from a smaller grocery store.

img_6729_malo

This is the Spilostethus saxatilis, a bug from the Lygaeidae family. Another prevalently red insect.

img_7080_malo

Here you can see a red protuberance on the green leaf of the elm tree. The thing is a product of the aphid feeding activities on the tree.

img_9246_malo

These red leaves of some decorative climbing plant were photographed on one of the abandoned houses near the center of my hometown. At one point, in late autumn, all but two leaves fell from the twigs and branches.

img_9319_malo

And now, for the end, you can take a look at another leaf beetle. This is the Cryptocephalus bipunctatus.

AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.

It's true as you said in your writing in this post, red is a strong signal color in nature and can be a complementary combination to objects around it. An example is in the photo you shared this time, red fruits, plants, flowers, and animals look very beautiful when paired with objects around them in any color. Thank you @borjan
