of all the roads I’ve passed

When does spring begin?

Growing up, I never would have considered February to be spring, but here I am, in a different part of the world, with fluctuating weather patterns and a much different culture than the one I grew up in, and while most people here would probably agree that February is a winter month, we just celebrated a traditional day that marks the beginning of spring, and all around us telltale signs of the new season are appearing: wedges of swans flying across the sky, tulip sprouts poking out of their flower beds, the peculiar smell of thawing soil, warm breezes, longer days, a slightly more golden and piercing quality to the sunlight, etc.

Much like the March of my childhood, February where I live now is a questionable month. Will it be kind and gentle? Will it progress onward toward spring? Or will it suddenly plunge us into the depths of winter?

Time will tell.

so purposefully
they wedge across the sky
pulling spring behind them

(2)

at intersections
I sometimes think in my car
of all the roads I’ve passed

(3)

as the light fades
it pulls depth from the world
leaving silhouettes

(4)

into the grey
the city goes first
then I follow

(5)

the sunlight changes
and winter begins to trickle
down the mountains

(6)

you are
such a curiosity
the banzai says to me

(7)

through the breakers
a large ship steadily moves
toward a place of calm

Waiting for spring like a bride for her love, changeable, unpredictable, maybe she will return? The bride always looks out for her spring return.

Very nice short verses, nature and the city will be reflected in each letter.

Thanks for sharing.
Good day.

Winter returned today. 🤣 But spring will be back soon. I’m sure.

Yes, weather and seasons can fluctuate. This year has been warmer than usual.

Your ability to say so much in few words is incredible. I liked the one about intersections in particular... I often wonder about these increments that mark our lives but are never recorded.

Hearing that spring is touching down where you live makes me feel hopeful. I know we have a while yet where I live till spring shows up, but each day I know it's a tiny bit closer haha!

Thanks for the interesting read 😄

It’s funny. I wrote that yesterday, and woke up to a blanket of snow. I don’t think it will last long, though. I think it was the last breath of winter for us this year.

When I lived in Upstate New York, February and March were always tough months to get through.

a lovely collection of tercets.

I'm not sure if they are meant to flow together or not. for me they dont. 1,3,4 & 5 feel like they do, 6 would with a more explicit linking word or phrase, but 2&7 dont feel part of the same them

tbc, the individual tercets I think are all great - 2 is my absolute favorite.

nice work

a side suggestion re: the photographs (which are also great quality). link a credit to who owns them - if they are yours mention that. if they aren't yours, check they are free to use.

They’re not meant to be linked together. I write a short poem a day and then share them each week in a post like this. Because they are written closely together, they often end up exploring similar themes and images, but as you can see, some of them don’t.

I see other people crediting themselves for the images in their post, but decided not to do the same because I thought the standard was to give credit to others when things in your posts aren’t original. But, it’s probably a good idea to clarify that all images, poems, and content are original and not produced by AI. Thanks.

Great poem! I usually can't complain about the weather, I'm pretty spoiled in southern California. It's been raining like crazy the last couple days though. I hope it's warming up a little more for you over there!

That slide is pretty cool, is it really as long as it look or is it just the angle you shot it?

It really was that long, and even longer actually. I couldn’t fit it all into the viewfinder.

Lovely photos and poem. I remember as a child I too was excited by these long slides.

Is it snowing there? Tokyo had heavy snow yesterday. People in the neighborhood were all over the place, buying shovels and spreading snow-melting agent, but I think the snow probably melted without doing anything...🤣

It is snowing. I write that post to welcome spring, and winter heard my call. 🤣

We didn’t get a lot of snow, though, maybe six or seven centimeters.
