SISYPHUS HUMAN

"Wow, he didn't drive up, the doyok's car was clever!"

Never heard of it, other people commented on an old car whose strength was already weak, when confronted with an uphill road truly full of struggle. If people say, he calls Doyok's car.

We are not talking about cars, but about dude. Actually Doyok was taken from the name of a character in the Srimulat comedy group. There he is, Kadir's friend.

Somehow the story, the word "doyok" then becomes a daily absorption word to indicate something lacking in energy.

Another example is bolot, which is a term to indicate someone who is suddenly lacking in hearing. In fact, the original Bolot is the name of a character in a Betawi comedy soap opera on television.

On the same boat as doyok and bolot, Westerners also like to use everyday words of absorption derived from the names of characters, namely Sisyphus. To show someone whose work is in vain.

Sisyphus itself is actually the name of a character in Greek myth, where in his lifetime he pushed the stone up the hill, then when it was almost at its peak the stone rolled down again.

Then Sisyphus descended the hill, pushing the stone toward its peak, but rolling again. And so on, Sisyphus's work never produced anything.

So, if we feel that our daily activities seem to be in vain without results, don't be surprised if our work will be called Sisyphus.

Sisyphus's work is what causes a person to feel bored with his life. Every morning he goes to the office, completes the task from the boss, then the night returns home. And so on every day.

Or if he is a trader, his activity is taking goods from producers, then selling them to consumers until they run out. After that, take another new item, and so on.

Routines like that make him like a robot machine. David Graeber, an Anthropology professor from London, in his book titled On The Phenomenon Of Bullshit Jobs shows one in three office workers feel doing the work in vain.

What causes this? Apparently because they could not find the meaning of what he was doing. So it's natural to assume that his profession has no meaning.

Of the many janitors at the hospital, when asked about their duties, some answered cleaning the floor, and some answered creating a comfortable and healthy environment for patients.

Look at the difference. The last answer shows that he knows that his activities are beneficial to others. He knows that his duties are needed by his environment and contribute to others. He has found meaning for his work!

Back to ourselves, find the meaning of what we do whatever the profession. Employees, teachers, online entrepreneurs, writers, all work must contain meaning. Don't work, just work. Because later we will become sisyphus.

It's time to wake up and change from our long sleep.
