American Football Week 2 and 3 Wrap Up: Talk about a Dumpster Fire!

It was a heck of a weekend for my favorite teams this past weekend. There wasn't a lot to be super excited about as both the Detroit Lions and the Michigan State Spartans fell short. One of them in grand fashion. I'm not going to get into details quite yet, but as a Lions fan I should have known better than to get my hopes up.

My wish is that this is just a minor setback and come next week we will be back on top. Okay, maybe not on top, but at least a little better off than they were this week.

Let's get to the scores then. As you know, I like picking out teams who had upset victories. That is usually what I focus on when I do these score recaps. Unfortunately, this is the time of year when most teams are playing those "cupcake" games, so the upsets are few and far between.

If you read my post yesterday, you know that I was at my nephews football games all day on Saturday, so I didn't get a chance to watch any college football. I was hoping to catch the MSU game when I got home, but was only broadcast on the Peacock network which is one of the few paid services I don't subscribe to.

#4 Florida State had a pretty close game against unranked Boston College. They were able to pull out the win, but BC made them fight for it making the final score 31 to 29.

The team we love to hate Alabama is sitting at #13 in the national rankings and they had a low scoring game against South Florida only putting up 17 points to SF's 3.

#8 Washington destroyed my Michigan State Spartans 41 to 7. I was kind of expecting that though. State is in the midst of a lot of turmoil right now with the head coach getting fired for basically being an idiot. I really hope they can get things sorted out and this season doesn't become a casualty of his folly.

Probably the most exciting game of the weekend would have been #23 Tennessee versus #25 Florida. The Gators bested the Volunteers 29 to 16 for the upset win. Well done Florida.

Now, let's move along to the NFL.

As you may have guessed, the Lions had a heartbreaking loss against Seattle at home. It was pretty horrible actually. I would have thought the refs would be giving The Lions a little more respect now, but clearly that isn't the case. I'm not saying the Lions were perfect, but there were some questionable calls at the end of the game that definitely didn't go in their favor and likely cost them the game.

At the very least, it cost them the chance to try and win the game.

That no call facemask in overtime was an absolute joke. They fall to the Seahawks, 31 to 37, but the good news is, none of the other teams in their division won either, so they are still tied at the top of the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers.

The Chargers/Titans game also went into overtime and it was a big win for Tennessee 27 to 24.

There were several other games that were really close this past weekend as well. Pittsburgh bested Cleveland 26 to 22, The Giants beat the Cardinals 31 to 28, Washington beat Denver 35 to 33, and New Orleans topped Carolina 20 to 17.

I should also point out the 25 to 24 win of Atlanta over Green Bay in what was probably one of the best games of the day. Baltimore also beat Cincinnati 27 to 24.

I'm not really sure how to feel about this season so far. Buffalo had a nice recovery after their loss last week. Philadelphia is looking really good this season.

There is still a lot of season left, so we will see how things develop. I am not giving up on the Lions yet, but they need to get their house in order. Defense was looking a bit tired on Sunday. Definitely not the line that showed up the Chiefs and shut down Mahomes in week 1.
