Are these numbers made up?

If you were to look at my dog Jovi, you might think this past weekend was absolutely boring. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. I've mentioned before that my younger niece plays travel softball for a team called the Ohio Lasers Scarlet. She has been having a great summer season and it has been a joy to watch her play.

Her older sister is now playing softball at the university level. Despite that fact, many college programs encourage their players to join a summer league so they can keep their skills fresh. I would have thought they would discourage this lest an injury happen in the off season, but that apparently isn't the case.

My brother in law threw some kids together and created an 18U (eighteen years old and under) team to play a couple of tournaments this summer. This past weekend, they were a little short, so they had her younger sister step up and play on the team along with some of her friends from the Lasers team.

It's pretty rare that all three of them are out on the field at the same time (two players and coach), so it was an absolute joy to watch them play this past weekend.

My brother in law coached the team through some pretty amazing games. I think they went 2-2 on the weekend though I could be wrong. My older niece doesn't really keep track of her stats anymore because she isn't looking to be recruited by a university.

I can say she did play very well and I was really proud of her. She didn't get a lot of playing time in her freshman year at the university level, so it was nice to see her out on the field and taking some at bats. She had a couple dingers that helped the team out.

As I said, her younger sister had the weekend off from the Lasers as well as some of her teammates, so they stepped up and helped out the Revolution Elite 18U team.

Since she is starting to shop for universities to attend, she does keep track of her stats.

You might have to read this multiple times, because you probably won't believe me when I tell you that she it .727 on the weekend with 2 home runs and 9 RBI's.

I'll give you a little bit to let that sink in.

...

You good?

Do you get it? That's some beast mode stats there. That batting average doesn't account for the times she was walked. Trust me, she was walked.

After she hit one of the home runs, the next time she was up to bat it was almost like the pitcher was afraid to get the ball anywhere near her.

What I love is how proud her older sister is of her. She is really killing it on the field and it has been great to see them both grow and evolve over the years.

Tomorrow I switch gears a little bit and I will be talking about my nephews baseball game that I went to last night. It was a real barn burner, check back to find out what happened!

I have no idea what the stats mean, but well done to her!

So assume she was up to bat four times and she got two hits. That would make her average .500. Being up four times and getting four hits would be 1.000 which is where the phrase "batting a thousand" comes from. Typically starters are up far more than that. She played four games over the weekend which adds up to probably 12 to 16 at bats for the weekend. Assuming 16 times that would mean she hit the ball and got on base 12 out of 16 times. Which is dang good in baseball or softball.
