Fill Your Bowl

It was the first full weekend of bowl season here in the US. This is a magical time of year when college football is on pretty much every day and we get to see some amazing cross conference match ups that you wouldn't normally get.

In addition to that, this is the first year we are seeing the 12 team championship format after years and years and years of fans begging for something better.

I recently read a post where someone was talking about the old days when they simply had a popularity contest to see which two teams would face each other in the national championship game.

Needless to say, one of them was pretty much always Alabama. At least in recent history.

Then we moved to the four team playoff or whatever it was, and people were at least a little placated.

I get it. As I said before, you are never going to make everyone happy. There are always going to be teams who should have been in the playoff that get left out. In addition to that, there are always going to be teams that maybe could have done something amazing if they had just been given the chance.

The thrashing Oregon gave James Madison in the game on Saturday night is proof of that. James Madison might be a great team, but they never should have been in the playoff. At least not in lieu of some of the other teams that got left out. Heck, I'd even argue Michigan should have been in the bracket before JMU, and that is hard for me to say. Nevertheless, JMU was there and they got hamered 51 to 34 by Oregon.

Western Michigan beat Kennesaw State 41 to 6, fire up Broncos! Also Arkansas State took down Missouri State 34 to 28.

As far as the other playoff games, Alabama beat Oklahoma 34 to 24 (Ugh), Ole Miss destroyed Tulane 41 to 10. Yet another example of how the system is still flawed.

Finally, in a huge upset, Miami took down Texas A&M 10 to 3 in a defensive showdown. To think, Miami almost didn't make it to the playoffs. Crazy right?!

College football continues Monday afternoon with the Idaho Potato Bowl.

I should also mention that my brother in laws alma matter Ferris State University won the division II championship for the second year in a row with a big win down in Texas over I think it was Harding University. They basically dominated the game and it was a thrill to watch them do so well.

Congrats Ferris State!
