Lady Dragons have a rough end to their road trip

My weekend was mostly dedicated to basketball with the conference tournaments happening on the women's side of things, but I did get a chance to watch a few softball games as well. My niece was finishing up the road trip with her team down in Florida.

While the last half of the trip wasn't the greatest for the team, It was nice to see my niece playing like she used to when she was in high school. I still feel like the team is looking a lot better already this year than they were last year.

I've pointed this out before, but when the new coach came in, she still had players that were recruited by the old coach. I think we can all agree that each coach has their own style and sometimes when new coaches start, you can have incompatible personalities between certain players and coaches.

The transfer portal helps alleviate a lot of that these days, but you still have to be able to get picked up. Unfortunately, many players don't have the proper attitude to end up anywhere else.

I was chatting with my niece the other night and she said this year is nice because all of the players on the team actually want to be there and then next year it will be all players that the new coach has recruited.

I have to point out the shadows of the palm trees in the photo above. That's the main reason I took it. I promised @thebighigg (I think it was) that I would share this photo. While not in a proper #shadowhunters post, it's still kind of cool.

Friday Tiffin had their first game against Notre Dame College, not to be confused with the University in South Bend Indiana.

They lost that game 2 to 3, but my niece had a really nice hit and then she took a walk for a couple of really clean innings.

In their second game they faced The College of Staten Island and they ended up run ruling them with a 12 to 0 victory. My niece hit a bomb that was a couple inches from going out of the park. It was a pretty thing to watch. I texted her after the game and she was so excited. It was great to know she was that happy.

Unfortunately, Saturday wasn't too kind to them. I don't know if they were tired after a long week of softball or what, but they got run ruled by Purdue Northwest 10 to 1, and then they lost to Quincy 1 to 5. My nieces hitting wasn't that great in those two games, so I am not even going to talk about it.

I talked to her after the games and she said that the first team was really good, but the second team they shouldn't have lost to because they played them the weekend before and they run ruled them. I could tell she was feeling a bit embarrassed by that fact.

I am hoping they can learn from these mistakes as they start conference play. The good news is, they should never had more than two games per day from here on out with some good recovery time in between.

Weekends will be when they get the real action with four games across two days, but if you have ever watched summer travel league softball, that's basically nothing!

I wish the Tiffin Dragon lots of luck this year. I can't wait to watch them!
