NCAA Week 10/NFL Week 9 Recap: Bye week and a Big Spartan Win

I've gotta be honest, I didn't watch a ton of football this past weekend. If you saw my post yesterday, you already know that I spent a lot of my weekend watching my niece play softball down in Tennessee. The games were so spread out through the days that it was hard to focus on much of anything else.

Plus, Winter is right around the corner whether we like it or not and I had a lot of yard work that had to get done before the snow starts to fly.

I did happen to go back and watch the highlight reel from the Michigan State/Nebraska game, it was pretty impressive. That's one of the things I really like about Youtube TV. If you want, you can start a game from the beginning, join it live, or just watch the key plays. There were about 39 key plays in the Nebraska/MSU game and I watched all of them.

I have to say, the Spartans defense was looking really good. Leavitt didn't have the fireworks I expected him to, but it was nice to see Houser settle back into his role a the starter. I think we have some good pieces to build on there. If we can just get a new head coach that can make some decent recruiting decisions, we might have a chance.

Next year...

Ohio State were having a bit of a rough time with Rutgers in the first half of their game. They certainly weren't looking like a team that is ranked #1 in the country. I have a feeling they are going to have a tough time with the U of M game. It should be one of the best games of the season. If you watched the game, you know that OSU turned things around in the second half and crushed Rutgers.

In a stunner, Clemson turned what has been a horrible season around if only for a single day when they beat #15 Notre Dame 31 to 23.

Arkansas took Florida to overtime, but beat the Gators 39 to 36. Meanwhile, Texas A&M gave #10 Ole Miss a bit of a scare, but just fell short with a 38 to 35 loss.

It was a day of close games as #7 Texas needed overtime to get a three point victory over #23 Kansas State 33 to 30.

@mrsbozz's cousin played for Arizona State, so that measly three points they put up in their 3 to 55 loss to #18 Utah State has to hurt!

#11 Penn State bounced back from their loss to Ohio State and crushed maryland 51 to 15. That 27 to 26 win by Illinois over Minnesota was a pretty big game in the Big 10. Probably one of the most exciting of the day. Especially when you look at the 10 to 7 score between Iowa and Northwestern. Talk about a snooze fest!

I'm just kidding, hats off to the defense in that game.

If I had to guess, the stunner of the weekend was #22 Oklahoma State taking down #9 Oklahoma 27 to 24.

I will admit though, that 52 to 42 win by #5 Washington over #20 USC had to be pretty exciting as well!

In the NFL, the Lions didn't play this past weekend, so that is another reason why I didn't watch a lot of football.

Kansas City had a great game over in Frankfurt Germany taking down the Dolphins in a pretty great game. Did any of my worldwide friends get to catch that? I really thought Minnesota was going to lose with their quarterback injured, but they somehow managed to pull out a win. Just how horrible are the Falcons this year?

The big news is probably the massive game Houston had beating Tampa Bay 39 to 37. Congrats Stroud on your career performance.

Philadelphia had a close game against Dallas, but they came out on top and should still hold the #1 spot in the league I think.

Buffalo had a tough game against the Bengals but ultimately fell short 18 to 24. That's definitely a heart breaker. At 5 and 4, the post season might slowly be slipping away from Bills fans.

Tennessee who was looking pretty good last season is also struggling this season. I'm looking forward to next weekend to see how the Lions can do after their weekend off.
