NCAA Week 8/NFL Week 7 Recap: Strange Accomodations

In my main blog over at @bozz, I have already made mention of the fact that @mrsbozz and I recently took a trip to Vermont. On that trip, we knew that watching the big game between Michigan and Michigan State might not be possible. Although it is a huge game for us here in Michigan, I wouldn't expect the people in Vermont to care too much about it.

In fact, most people over there seemed to mostly care about Baseball and Hockey. I am not even sure the University of Vermont has a football team.

So my wife and I spent Saturday evening cozy-ed up in our corner room with a view of Lake Champlain behind us, my laptop streaming the Michigan/Michigan State game, and the TV playing House Hunters in front of us.

As you can imagine, things did not go well for MSU. Sparty didn't even score a single point in the game. I kind of figured it would go that way. I hoped they would score at lest three points though. I've heard rumors that several players from State are already entering the transfer portal. Hopefully we can get a head coach in the future who can build something great there. I'd love to see MSU back to its former glory.

I was really hoping for a different outcome with the Penn State/Ohio State game. I knew it would be a tough ask given the game was in the "shoe", but Penn State actually held on pretty good for the first half of the game. I was sitting in a bar watching it on the big screen and I've gotta say that called back fumble recovery for a touchdown was heart breaking!

Nebraska beat Northwestern, so yay for the Cornhuskers. I might need to be a fan if they are really starting to turn things around. I usually prefer to cheer for teams that are outside of the Big 10 though, given the obvious conflict.

The other big game on Saturday was that Tennessee/Alabama game. Talk about pissing a game away. The volunteers really screwed the pooch on that one. It was really hard watching the Bama fans smoke their cigars in the stands.

Finally, USC definitely made it a good game against Utah. The 32 to 34 is nothing to feel too bad about. Especially given the fact that Utah sits about 12 places higher than them in the polls.

The Big 10 is kind of hot mess this year with 3 clear standouts. I'd expect OSU, PSU, and UofM to have great bowl placements if not championship game prospects.

Over in the NFL, Chicago had a big win over Las Vegas. They honestly needed that, they have been struggling pretty badly this year. Detroit had a gut punch of a loss to Baltimore. It would seem the NFL team took a cue from the Maryland/Michigan State game a few weeks ago. I actually didn't get to watch the Detroit game and it might be a good thing after they only put up 6 points.

It's probably all for the best though, it keeps them honest and hopefully gives them more "grit" to work with. That's been their theme all along and nothing gives you more grit than losing and losing badly.

Gotta feel a bit bad for @jongolson and the Bills fans. They had a rough loss to the Patriots. I was watching that game in a bar and it was just rough. That last quarter was just brutal. I'm truly sorry.

The good news for the Lions is the fact that Green Bay also lost, so they shouldn't gain any ground on them there.

Seattle continues to look good and if/when we face off against them again, I hope we have their number this time.

Hats off to Minnesota on the win over San Francisco. There was a lot of speculation on that one and Cousins pulled it off. Way to go MSU boy!

Taylor Swift continued to work her magic and Kansas City beat Los Angeles. It's a good thing she started showing up so the Chiefs can actually be good for once :)

It would seem Stafford is back to his old form (is he even playing again) and the Rams lost to The Steelers.

Finally, let's talk about that Cleveland/Indy game. They cut over to this game after one of the other ones finished up and I have to admit, it was pretty crazy there at the end. 39 to 38 the Browns won the game. I honestly think that Indy was robbed, but that's just me.

The other big news of the weekend/week is the fact that the World Series is set. I was hoping to see the Phillies in the big game, but the Diamondbacks edged past them to face off against the Rangers in the big show.

It's going to be a heck of a series based on what we have seen in the division playoffs! I will definitely be watching!
