NFL Week 4 Recap: It's not easy being a Lions fan

As the title suggests, it definitely isn't easy being a Detroit Lions fan. My wife and I were driving back from Ohio on Sunday morning. I was pretty sure we would make it home just in time for me to settle on the couch and catch the Lions game at 1:00 PM.

It's not like I expected them to win, you kind of get over that hope being a Lions fan, but I still enjoy watching them for the rare chance that they might actually work some magic. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, my buddy called me up and asked if I wanted to go disc golfing. It was a beautiful day, so I decided that was the better choice.

It turns out I was right since the Lions ended up losing by three points to the Seattle Seahawks. It's interesting though, there are a lot of stats being thrown around that make this NFL season very special.

Did you know that so far this season there have been more games decided by three points or less than any other season in the NFL? Did you also know what team is leading the league in offense? Believe it or not, it's the Lions. That's right, the Lions have scored 140 points so far this season. That's the most of any team in the NFL.

So why haven't they been winning you might ask? Well, good question. On the flip side, the Lions are the worst team in the league in defense. They have allowed 141 points on defense. If you know the Detroit Lions, you would know this is a very "Liony" thing for them to do. You honestly wouldn't expect anything less from them.

The game this past weekend against the Seahawks was also special in another way. It was one of the only times if not the only time that the score in an NFL game has ever been 48 to 45. Seems more like a college basketball score doesn't it?

But dang, if they could get their defense in check, it could be something really special right?

In other news, Cincy beat Miami, Minnesota edged out the Saints by three points. Atlanta over the Browns by three points, Dallas (as much as I hate them), just continues to win. Of course I mentioned the Lions already.

The Titans put a stop to the Colts and the Giants took a bite out of the Bears.

In a couple more close games, the Jets beat the Steelers by 4 points and Buffalo beat Baltimore by three points.

Houston is looking just about as bad as the Lions this year. Actually, worse if you are just looking at wins and losses and not the stats.

I watched some of that Patriots/Green Bay game. It was actually really good. The Pats brought it on defense and took the game into overtime. Unfortunately the Packers won by three points in overtime. Man, I hate the Packers.

Vegas stomped all over Denver, and KC did the same with Tampa Bay. Finally, we had the game last night. San Francisco's defense stepped up big time and pretty much shut down Stafford and the Rams. This played a pretty significant roll for my wife's fantasy team this week, but I will talk more about that tomorrow.

If you can get a chance to do sport instead of sitting on the couch watching it is so much better. I still don't understand how you can sit through all the advertising breaks as it would drive me nuts and lose interest.

Yeah, it was such a beautiful day that it was kind of a no brainer. Plus we had been in the car for four hours straight, so I knew I needed to get out and get some exercise. You ignore the commercials after a while.
