Prolonging the Agony

I watched practically no NFL football this past weekend. I had zero clue the Lions were playing the Cowboys on Thursday night until it was all over, and then on Sunday my wife and I decided to have binge watch the first season of Ballard on Amazon Prime.

I did get the chance to watch a bit of the Chicago vs. Green Bay game, but once I saw that Chicago wasn't winning I changed the channel. It was nice to see the Lions had won after the fact, but I am kind of at the point now where I feel like we are just prolonging the agony of what is going to end up being a less than stellar year.

Minus the loss to Green Bay, the Bears are looking good this season. Our failure to beat the Packers on both occasions we played is not great, and there are a bunch of other teams in the NFL that look much tighter than the Lions do right now.

If we do manage to make it to the playoffs it's likely going to be by the skin of our teeth, and after that it will probably be a one and done scenario like we have seen in the past.

Have I ever mentioned how hard it is being a Lions fan?

So yeah, Detroit beat Dallas 44 to 30 on Thursday night. They are still allowing a lot of points and that is not great. We need to shore up our defense if we want to have any hope of finishing the season strong. Pittsburgh beat Baltimore 27 to 22, Jacksonville handed Indy another loss 36 to 19, and New Orleans somehow snagged a win against Tampa Bay 24 to 20.

Miami took down the Jets 34 to 10, Minnesota blanked the Washington Commanders 31 to 0, and Tennessee got a rare win against Cleveland 31 to 29. Buffalo took down Cincinnati 39 to 34, Seattle bested the Falcons 37 to 9, and Denver rolled over Las Vegas 24 to 17.

The Rams hammered Arizona 45 to 17, Green Bay beat Chicago 28 to 21, Houston handed Kansas City a loss 20 to 10, and The Chargers got a home win against the Eagles in overtime 22 to 19.

That puts Denver and New England at the top of the AFC with 11 wins and 2 losses. Meanwhile Vegas now sits at the bottom with only two wins on the season.

Over in the NFC, The Rams and the Seahawks are tied at the top with 10 wins and three loses. Green Bay and Chicago are close behind with 9 wins. The Giants didn't lose this past weekend because they didn't play, but they still sit at the bottom of the NFC list with just two wins this season.

Detroit has a big challenge next weekend as they face The Rams in week 15. This could be the make or break moment for them.
