Sports Betting with Bozz: Better to be lucky than good

Sports Betting.png

It seems like I may have hit a bit of a wall with my betting. I put in a number of bets over the past weekend and believe it or not I did better with my soccer bets that I did with my football bets. That seems to be a recurring theme lately. I don't know what I am going to do to stay in the black once the world cup is all over.

Actually, that is a bit of a lie. I am not in the black. If you recall, my main account started this journey at ~$220 or so. Since I am now sitting at $150, I am definitely in the red. Unless of course you consider that $220 was all from wins the previous year. In that case, I am playing with house money.

Also, college basketball season is just starting to get rolling, so I should be able to place a fair number of bets on that. Hopefully that will get me back in the black.

As you can see, I did place one bet from my DraftKings account this past weekend. That account is sitting at $30 and it has been hit or miss for me most of the season. In this case, it was definitely a miss. Shocking that the Lions are the one team that actually hit on this three leg parlay. I knew it was going to be stretch given how well the Vikings and the Eagles are playing this year, but no risk no reward right?

Best to get comfortable because like I said, I placed a fair number of bets from my FanDuel account this past weekend.

I followed some of the lines that @fullcoverbetting published and I was able to snag some small wins. I will take them any way I can get them.

The $1 bet on South Korea over Portugal rewarded me $4.40.

Then I put $2 on Ghana, but they weren't able to overcome Uruguay. The $1 I put on Cameroon over Brazil was a good bet though and it netted me $8.50. I think it is kind of funny how the $2 bets I put in never win, but the $1 bets seem to hit all the time. Okay, maybe not all the time, but perhaps I should just stick to placing $1 bets from now on.

I thought sure that 7 or more goals bet might have won me something, but that wasn't the case. My thinking was we are getting to the point in the World Cup where it's going to be the best of the best teams. Scoring should be a bit more frequent, so all of the teams combined hitting seven or more goals shouldn't be a stretch.

Finally, we have the ill fated Netherlands vs. USA match that I bet on. I decided to do a parlay on that one and as you can see two of the legs hit. To be fair, I think this was one of the parlays that was automatically created by the system, so it was kind of a mindless $1 bet for me.

In addition to that parlay above, I also put down a $1 outright bet on the US to win the match against Netherlands. I think we all know that didn't hit either.

Over the weekend I decided to create my own parlay for the conference football championships that were taking place. I mentioned this earlier in the week. While Kansas State came through for me against TCU, North Carolina wasn't as lucky against Clemson. It would seem my luck was gone for the rest of the weekend.

I thought sure Poland could win over France, but that didn't happen. Bye bye $1.

Senegal over England didn't play out well for me either. There goes another $1. Finally, somehow I accidentally bet on that Senegal/England match twice. You can see the two exact same bets right there. I need to be more careful about stuff like that. That was a $1 I could have used on another losing bet!

Finally, You can see that I did a little bit of betting on Sunday football from my Fan Duel account. It was one of their same game parlays and I came one leg away from it hitting and earning a cool $15 or so. That would have put me in a really good position going into this weekend.

Kind of sad to think that I just missed it by 4.5 points. I would have needed the Jets to score one less touchdown than they did. If the Vikings had scored any less they wouldn't have covered the spread and I would have lost that leg of the parlay.

I'm not saying I am giving up on parlays, but I am really staring to understand why they are considered a fools bet.

Check back next week to see if my luck turns around at all!

Within soccer, of course there are exceptions, the further the tournaments gets, the less goal will scored. The team will be more of equal strength and the weak teams were already send home.
They also do know that a goal against could mean elimination, so they approach the games more carefully, taking less risk. Also the pressure is rising, meaning that some player do loose their cool in front of the goal.
It is rare to see two teams facing each with open vizor!

Good luck with the bets. I can't wait until the World Cup is over and the regular national competitions do start again! Much more predictable!

Hmm, interesting. I guess that makes sense. I would have guessed they would be going all out to bring home the win. I'll be sure to keep my eye on your bets when those matches start. I think they let us bet on pretty much everything here. Even the Oscars!
