Twitter and Sports

This isn't going to be a super long post, I just wanted to talk about a connection that I have really been struck with over the past couple of years. I make it no secret that my nieces are college and high school softball players.

I probably cover their softball escapades a bit more than many of you would like, but it is something I am proud and passionate about, so I enjoy sharing it here with anyone who wants to read about it.

I've noticed as my oldest niece was preparing for her university career and now that her younger sister is in the midst of her high school career, just how much they use Twitter to communicate.

In much the same way LinkedIn was supposed to be a way of marketing yourself and connecting with professional individuals, many high school athletes are building a portfolio on Twitter to share with university coaches.

It's almost like it is the preferred format to share clips, stats, and other important information about their careers.

Both of my nieces have/had coaches following their Twitter account from universities all across the country. Their travel coaches also do a good job of highlighting their successes and sharing those with other potential coaches.

I'm not sure anyone would have guessed that Twitter would grow into such a perfect vehicle for sharing information like this. It raises the point that students need to be careful who they follow or what they post on their accounts.

It might even be smart to have multiple accounts. I have two myself. One is mainly for my crypto stuff and the other is my personal account that I connect with family (like my nieces).

It works out well for me.

I think part of what makes Twitter so perfect is the fact that you can just throw out quick chunks of text or videos.

I don't see anyone leaving Web 2.0 anytime soon, but this little niche could be something that Threads might like to take note of and focus on. I think it would be hard to get a lot of people on HIVE to use Threads, but then again you never know.

What if there as a easy to access Blockchain based dapp for this specific purpose. A virtual catalog of highlights that coaches can view and players can upload. That might be cool.

Just a thought...

It's too hard for most people. They are lazy. They aren't going to want to do the extra work. It's do-able for us, but not feasible for the masses.

I've almost abandoned Twtr as it has got a lot worse recently. A lot of people left for Mastodon, but they still have millions of users who don't realise there are alternatives. You generally need to be where your audience is. I think a lot of kids may use Instagram and Tiktok these days, but there may be other new platforms I don't even know about.

Of course I'd love to see Hive get some of the youth market, but few will know about it.

I think they use those personally, but this is more professional. I find it interesting they are turning to Twitter for this specific use. It works well for them. It's almost the perfect vehicle if you take all of the negatives out of the equation.
